Which companies sponsor visas for principal engineers in Florida?
Defense and aerospace contractors including Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and L3Harris sponsor senior engineering roles in Orlando and the Space Coast. In South Florida, companies like Chewy, Ultimate Kronos Group (UKG), and Citrix have sponsored principal-level engineers. Florida's fintech and cloud infrastructure sectors also include active sponsors, particularly in Miami and Tampa.
Which visa types are most common for principal engineer roles in Florida?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa category for principal engineers in Florida, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a technical field. Senior engineers with extraordinary ability may qualify for the O-1A. Candidates from Australia, Canada, and Mexico may also be eligible for the E-3 visa, TN visa, or H-1B1 visas, which bypass the H-1B lottery.
Which cities in Florida have the most principal engineer sponsorship jobs?
Orlando leads for principal engineer sponsorship, driven by defense, aerospace, and simulation technology employers concentrated near the Space Coast corridor. Miami follows with fintech, logistics, and enterprise software companies expanding their engineering headcount. Tampa has a growing cybersecurity and health tech sector that regularly hires at the principal level. Jacksonville and Fort Lauderdale see more limited but consistent sponsorship activity.
How to find principal engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Florida?
Migrate Mate filters principal engineer roles specifically by visa sponsorship availability and state, making it more efficient than broad job searches. You can browse Florida-specific listings for principal engineers and filter by employer or city. Because principal engineer positions are senior-level, postings move quickly, so setting up alerts on Migrate Mate for new Florida listings helps ensure you don't miss active opportunities.
Are there any Florida-specific considerations for principal engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Florida's lack of state income tax is a practical factor when comparing offers across states, though it does not affect the federal H-1B prevailing wage requirements employers must meet. The state's defense and aerospace sectors require security clearances for many senior roles, which can complicate sponsorship for non-citizens. Florida's university system, including University of Florida and University of Central Florida, also supplies a pipeline of engineering talent that shapes local hiring competition at the principal level.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored principal engineer jobs in Florida?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
