Which companies sponsor visas for principal engineers in Wisconsin?
Rockwell Automation in Milwaukee, Epic Systems in Verona, and Northwestern Mutual are among the Wisconsin employers with documented histories of sponsoring work visas for senior engineering roles. Larger manufacturers in the Fox Valley region, including companies in industrial automation and medical devices, also file H-1B petitions for principal-level positions requiring specialized technical expertise.
Which visa types are most common for principal engineer roles in Wisconsin?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for principal engineers in Wisconsin, as these roles typically require at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related specialty field. Candidates with exceptional recognition in their discipline may also qualify for the O-1A. Principal engineers transferring from a parent company abroad sometimes enter on an L-1A or L-1B instead.
Which cities in Wisconsin have the most principal engineer sponsorship jobs?
Milwaukee and Madison account for the majority of principal engineer sponsorship activity in Wisconsin. Milwaukee's concentration of manufacturing, fintech, and industrial automation firms drives consistent demand, while Madison benefits from Epic Systems and a technology cluster connected to the University of Wisconsin. Green Bay and Appleton see smaller but steady hiring in manufacturing and supply chain engineering.
How to find principal engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Wisconsin?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search principal engineer roles in Wisconsin without sorting through positions that don't support international candidates. Because principal engineer openings at this seniority level are posted less frequently than mid-level roles, setting up alerts on Migrate Mate for Wisconsin ensures you see relevant openings as soon as they appear.
Are there state-specific considerations for principal engineers seeking sponsorship in Wisconsin?
Wisconsin's prevailing wage requirements for H-1B petitions are determined by the Department of Labor's Standard Occupational Classification for the specific engineering discipline and metropolitan area. Employers in Milwaukee and Madison typically classify principal engineers at wage Level III or Level IV. The University of Wisconsin system also produces a consistent pipeline of engineering graduates, which influences how local employers structure their international hiring programs.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored principal engineer jobs in Wisconsin?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
