Which companies sponsor visas for learning and development professionals in New York?
Large employers with established HR and talent development functions are the most active sponsors. In New York, this includes financial institutions like Citigroup and Goldman Sachs, consulting firms like Deloitte and McKinsey, healthcare systems like NYU Langone and NewYork-Presbyterian, and technology companies like IBM and Google. These organizations regularly hire for L&D roles including instructional designers, training managers, and organizational development specialists.
Which visa types are most common for learning and development roles in New York?
The H-1B is the most common visa for learning and development professionals in New York, as most L&D roles requiring a bachelor's degree in education, organizational psychology, instructional design, or a related field qualify as specialty occupations. The O-1A is an option for candidates with demonstrated expertise or recognition in the field. Australians may qualify for the E-3, which follows the same specialty occupation standard as the H-1B.
How to find learning and development visa sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate is a job board specifically designed for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship, with filters for role type and U.S. state. For learning and development roles in New York, you can browse verified sponsoring employers directly on Migrate Mate rather than sorting through listings from employers unlikely to sponsor. This saves time and focuses your search on companies that have an established history of supporting work visa applications.
Which cities in New York have the most learning and development sponsorship jobs?
New York City accounts for the large majority of L&D sponsorship activity in the state, driven by its concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters, major hospital systems, and consulting firms. Manhattan and Brooklyn are the primary hiring hubs. Albany sees demand from state government agencies and higher education institutions. Buffalo has growing activity tied to healthcare systems like Kaleida Health and its expanding technology sector.
Are there any New York-specific considerations for learning and development visa sponsorship?
New York employers sponsoring H-1B workers must pay the Department of Labor prevailing wage for the specific role and location, and New York City prevailing wages are among the highest in the country given local wage survey data. L&D roles tied to higher education institutions, such as universities and hospitals, are often cap-exempt for H-1B purposes, meaning sponsorship can happen year-round without waiting for the annual lottery.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored learning and development jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
