Which companies sponsor visas for principal software engineers in North Carolina?
North Carolina's Research Triangle is home to several active sponsors at the principal engineer level, including Red Hat, Cisco, SAS Institute, and Lenovo. In Charlotte, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and LendingTree have sponsored senior engineering roles. Biotechnology and life sciences companies in the Durham and RTP area, such as Biogen and Syneos Health, also file H-1B petitions for senior technical positions.
Which visa types are most common for principal software engineer roles in North Carolina?
The H-1B is the most common visa for principal software engineers in North Carolina, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or a related field. Candidates with extraordinary ability may pursue the O-1A. Intracompany transferees at large employers like Cisco or Lenovo may qualify for an L-1A or L-1B depending on their role and prior employment history.
Which cities in North Carolina have the most principal software engineer sponsorship jobs?
The Research Triangle area, covering Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill, accounts for the largest share of principal software engineer sponsorship jobs in North Carolina, driven by its concentration of technology companies, startups, and research institutions. Charlotte is the second-largest market, anchored by its financial services sector. Smaller but active hiring pockets exist in Cary, Morrisville, and the areas immediately surrounding Research Triangle Park.
How to find principal software engineer visa sponsorship jobs in North Carolina?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to search for principal software engineer roles in North Carolina without sorting through positions that do not sponsor. You can filter by location across the Research Triangle, Charlotte, and other North Carolina markets. Because principal engineer roles are senior and often filled through targeted sourcing, checking Migrate Mate regularly and setting up alerts helps you catch new postings early.
What should principal software engineers know about the North Carolina job market before pursuing sponsorship?
North Carolina's Research Triangle Park is one of the largest research and technology campuses in the United States, which supports a strong pipeline of senior engineering roles at both established companies and well-funded startups. The presence of NC State, Duke, and UNC-Chapel Hill means many employers are familiar with sponsoring international talent. Principal-level roles are typically classified under specialty occupation standards, and employers at this level generally have established immigration counsel and HR processes for H-1B filings.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored principal software engineer jobs in North Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
