Which companies sponsor visas for principal software engineers in Minnesota?
Target, UnitedHealth Group, Medtronic, and Best Buy are among the most active H-1B sponsors for senior engineering roles in Minnesota. Mid-size companies in healthtech and fintech, including Optum and Ameriprise Financial, also have established sponsorship programs. DOL Labor Condition Application disclosure data shows consistent LCA filings for principal-level software engineering positions across these employers in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metro.
Which visa types are most common for principal software engineer roles in Minnesota?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for principal software engineers in Minnesota, given that the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or a related field. Candidates already holding L-1A or L-1B status through multinational employers also pursue these positions. Individuals with extraordinary ability may qualify for O-1A classification, though that pathway requires substantial documented achievements.
Which cities in Minnesota have the most principal software engineer sponsorship jobs?
Minneapolis and its neighboring city Saint Paul collectively account for the overwhelming majority of principal software engineer sponsorship opportunities in Minnesota. Bloomington and Plymouth, both suburban hubs within the Twin Cities metro, host significant corporate tech operations, particularly in healthcare IT and financial services. Rochester sees some activity driven by IBM and Mayo Clinic's technology divisions, though volume there is lower than in the core metro.
How to find principal software engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Minnesota?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles where employers are actively open to visa sponsorship, including principal software engineer positions in Minnesota. Rather than sorting through unfiltered postings, you can browse Migrate Mate to identify Minnesota-based employers with a demonstrated history of H-1B sponsorship for senior engineering roles, narrowing your search to companies where sponsorship conversations are realistic from the start.
Are there any Minnesota-specific considerations for principal software engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Minnesota's prevailing wage determinations for principal software engineers are set by the Department of Labor at Level III or Level IV, reflecting the seniority of the role. Employers must certify on the Labor Condition Application that they will pay at least the prevailing wage for the relevant metro area, which for Minneapolis-Saint Paul is among the higher benchmarks in the Midwest. The University of Minnesota also supplies a pipeline of sponsored international talent into the state's tech sector.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored principal software engineer jobs in Minnesota?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
