Which companies sponsor visas for welders in North Dakota?
Oil and gas service companies operating in the Williston Basin, including oilfield equipment manufacturers and pipeline contractors, have historically filed for foreign worker sponsorship in welding roles. Basin Electric Power Cooperative and manufacturing firms like Bobcat in Gwinner also hire skilled welders. Sponsorship is more common at larger employers with dedicated HR and legal resources to manage the immigration process.
Which visa types are most common for welder roles in North Dakota?
The H-2B temporary nonimmigrant visa is the most common pathway for welders in North Dakota, used when employers demonstrate a shortage of available U.S. workers for a defined period. The H-1B is generally not applicable to welding roles because the occupation typically does not meet the specialty occupation standard requiring a specific bachelor's degree. EB-3 immigrant visas through PERM labor certification represent the primary permanent residence pathway for qualified welders.
Which cities in North Dakota have the most welder sponsorship jobs?
Williston sees the highest concentration of welding demand due to Bakken oil field activity, where pipeline and structural welding work is ongoing. Bismarck and Fargo have stronger manufacturing and utility sector demand, with employers in heavy equipment and power generation. Minot also generates welding opportunities tied to energy infrastructure and agricultural equipment manufacturing in the region.
How to find welder visa sponsorship jobs in North Dakota?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers looking for visa sponsorship roles, including welder positions in North Dakota. You can filter by state and occupation to see employers in the Williston Basin, Fargo, and Bismarck who have indicated sponsorship willingness. Focusing on oilfield services, pipeline contractors, and heavy manufacturing companies in your search on Migrate Mate will return the most relevant results.
Are there any state-specific considerations for welders seeking sponsorship in North Dakota?
North Dakota's welding market is closely tied to oil price cycles, meaning hiring activity in the Williston Basin fluctuates with energy sector conditions. Employers filing H-2B petitions must demonstrate a temporary need and document recruitment efforts. AWS certification and experience with pipeline or pressure vessel welding to ASME or API standards are frequently cited in North Dakota job postings and strengthen an application for sponsorship consideration.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored welder jobs in North Dakota?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
