Which companies sponsor visas for software consultants in Ohio?
Large consulting firms and financial institutions are the most active sponsors in Ohio. Companies like Accenture, Cognizant, Infosys, and Wipro have consistent H-1B filing histories for consulting roles across Columbus and Cleveland. Ohio-headquartered employers including Nationwide, Progressive, and Fifth Third Bank also sponsor software consultants, particularly for roles tied to digital transformation and enterprise technology initiatives.
Which visa types are most common for software consultant roles in Ohio?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for software consultants in Ohio, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field. L-1B visas are also used by multinational consulting firms transferring specialists into Ohio offices. TN visas are an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals working in qualifying consulting capacities.
Which cities in Ohio have the most software consultant sponsorship jobs?
Columbus generates the highest volume of software consultant sponsorship activity in Ohio, driven by its concentration of insurance, financial services, and technology employers. Cleveland follows, with demand tied to healthcare IT and manufacturing technology consulting. Cincinnati also has an active market, particularly around consumer goods and financial services firms that engage consultants for large-scale systems implementations.
How to find software consultant visa sponsorship jobs in Ohio?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters software consultant roles in Ohio by visa sponsorship history, so you're not sorting through listings from employers who won't sponsor. The platform surfaces positions from companies with documented H-1B and other sponsorship filings, which is particularly useful in Ohio where consulting demand spans multiple cities and industries.
Are there any Ohio-specific considerations for software consultants seeking visa sponsorship?
Ohio's prevailing wage requirements under the H-1B program apply at the county level, so compensation expectations differ between Columbus, Cleveland, and smaller metro areas. Ohio's strong university pipeline, particularly from Ohio State and Case Western Reserve, means some employers are accustomed to sponsoring recent graduates. Consulting roles at client sites across the state may also raise employer-of-record questions that candidates should clarify with their sponsoring firm before accepting an offer.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software consultant jobs in Ohio?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
