Which companies in Michigan sponsor visas for software consultants?
Large automotive technology employers including Ford Motor Company, General Motors, and Stellantis sponsor software consultants through consulting and technology arms. Major professional services firms with Michigan offices, including Deloitte, Accenture, and Infosys, are among the more consistent H-1B visa sponsors for software consultant roles. Mid-sized IT services firms contracting with automotive and manufacturing clients also regularly file petitions in Michigan.
Which visa types are most common for software consultant roles in Michigan?
The H-1B is the most common visa for software consultant roles in Michigan, given the specialty occupation requirements align well with degree-based consulting work. L-1B visas appear for intracompany transfers at global consulting firms with Michigan offices. Candidates from Australia may consider the E-3 visa, and Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify for TN visa status under the software engineer or systems analyst occupation categories.
How to find software consultant visa sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Migrate Mate filters software consultant roles specifically by employers with documented H-1B sponsorship history, making it easier to identify Michigan-based opportunities without sorting through companies that don't sponsor. You can search by city, role type, and visa category. Given Michigan's concentration of automotive tech and consulting work in Detroit and Ann Arbor, filtering to those metro areas on Migrate Mate will surface the most relevant openings.
Which cities in Michigan have the most software consultant sponsorship jobs?
Detroit and its suburbs, including Dearborn, Troy, and Auburn Hills, account for the majority of software consultant sponsorship activity due to the concentration of automotive OEMs and their technology vendors. Ann Arbor has a strong secondary market driven by University of Michigan spinoffs, health technology firms, and enterprise software companies. Grand Rapids is smaller but growing, particularly in manufacturing technology consulting.
Are there state-specific considerations for software consultants seeking sponsorship in Michigan?
Michigan's prevailing wage requirements for H-1B software consultant roles are benchmarked to Detroit and Ann Arbor metro data, which generally reflects the automotive and enterprise technology sectors. The University of Michigan and Michigan State University generate a notable pipeline of international graduates pursuing software consulting roles, meaning competition for sponsored positions in Ann Arbor and the Detroit metro can be meaningful. Employers in the automotive sector often require domain knowledge beyond general software skills.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software consultant jobs in Michigan?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
