Which companies in Ohio sponsor visas for software systems engineers?
Several large Ohio-based employers have consistent records of sponsoring work visas for software systems engineers. Nationwide Insurance and Progressive Corporation in Columbus and Mayfield Village regularly file H-1B petitions for engineering roles. Kroger Technology in Cincinnati, KeyBank in Cleveland, and Sherwin-Williams also appear in federal LCA disclosure data as active sponsors. Ohio's major hospital systems, including Cleveland Clinic and OhioHealth, sponsor engineering talent supporting their technology infrastructure.
Which visa types are most common for software systems engineer roles in Ohio?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for software systems engineers in Ohio, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. Candidates already holding L-1B status through multinational employers also fill systems engineering roles. Nationals from Australia may qualify for the E-3 visa, and Canadian and Mexican citizens may pursue TN visa status under the USMCA.
Which cities in Ohio have the most software systems engineer sponsorship jobs?
Columbus accounts for the largest share of software systems engineer sponsorship activity in Ohio, driven by its concentration of insurance, fintech, and retail technology headquarters. Cleveland is a secondary hub, supported by financial services firms, healthcare technology, and manufacturing automation companies. Cincinnati has a growing presence through Kroger Technology and a cluster of mid-size software firms. Dayton also sees demand from defense contractors and federal government suppliers operating in the region.
How to find software systems engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Ohio?
Migrate Mate lists software systems engineer roles in Ohio filtered specifically to employers offering visa sponsorship, saving you from manually screening postings. Searching by state lets you compare opportunities across Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati in one place. Because sponsorship availability is not always stated in job postings, Migrate Mate's curated data helps identify which Ohio employers have active sponsorship histories for systems engineering positions.
Are there any Ohio-specific factors that affect visa sponsorship for software systems engineers?
Ohio's prevailing wage requirements, determined by the Department of Labor for each metropolitan area, affect what employers must pay sponsored software systems engineers. Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati each fall under different wage determinations, so the same role can carry different wage obligations depending on the worksite. Ohio's university pipeline, particularly from Ohio State, Case Western Reserve, and the University of Cincinnati, creates a steady flow of OPT-eligible candidates that some employers hire before transitioning them to H-1B sponsorship.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software systems engineer jobs in Ohio?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
