- Create standardized integration packages for field deployment
- Translate customer site requirements into integration specifications and work with engineering teams to deliver solutions
- Own end-to-end data flow validation, ensuring data accuracy, continuity, timestamp health, and protocol compliance
- Work with Systems Modeling Engineers and Optimization Engineers to ensure models receive correct and normalized inputs
- Collaborate with Controls Engineers to synchronize real-time states and command interfaces
- Perform root-cause analysis for integration issues across OT/IT boundaries
- Document integration patterns, data mappings, and commissioning workflows
- Support deployment teams during customer rollouts
- Ensure that integration design meets security and reliability requirements
- Continuously improve integration frameworks for scalability and reuse
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science or Mathematics
- 8+ years of experience integrating multi‑vendor systems, ideally across BMS, DCIM, HVAC, or industrial automation
- 3+ years of experience with OT/IT protocols such as BACnet/IP, Modbus TCP, SNMP, MQTT, OPC‑UA, or Redfish
- 3+ years of experience implementing system-to-system integrations including API-based integrations (REST, WebSockets, GraphQL), Device connectivity onboarding, Schema or asset-model mapping
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, or Controls Systems
- Strong understanding of data center, building automation, or industrial facilities architectures
- Demonstrated ability to diagnose integration failures, communication issues, protocol mismatches, and telemetry quality problems
- Ability to work cross functionally with platform engineers, controls engineers, and field engineering teams
- Familiarity with Linux environments, networking fundamentals, and secure system configuration
- Strong documentation and communication skills for mapping requirements, interfaces, and test procedures
- Experience integrating: DCIM tools (Nlyte, EcoStruxure IT, Trellis), BMS/BAS systems (WebCTRL, Metasys, Desigo, Honeywell), HVAC systems (chillers, CDUs, CRAHs, pumps, towers)
- Hands-on experience with: Time-series databases, Edge computing frameworks (K3s, Azure IoT Edge, AWS Greengrass)
- Experience working in air-gapped or on‑prem-only deployments
- Knowledge of cybersecurity principles for operational systems
- Experience with version control, CI/CD pipelines, and automated test rigs
- Familiarity with data normalization, metadata handling, and asset hierarchies

Which companies sponsor visas for software systems engineers in Florida?
Defense and aerospace contractors are among the most active H-1B sponsors for software systems engineers in Florida. Lockheed Martin, L3Harris Technologies, Raytheon, and Northrop Grumman file consistently through their Orlando and Melbourne offices. On the commercial side, Chewy, Citrix, and Microsoft's Tampa presence have also sponsored engineers. Large federal contractors tend to have established immigration infrastructure, which makes the sponsorship process more predictable.
Which visa types are most common for software systems engineer roles in Florida?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for software systems engineers in Florida, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a relevant bachelor's degree or higher. Australian citizens may also qualify for the E-3 visa, which has no lottery and is available year-round. Canadian and Mexican nationals may use the TN visa. Engineers already in the U.S. on F-1 OPT, including STEM OPT extensions, are also commonly hired before transitioning to H-1B sponsorship.
Which cities in Florida have the most software systems engineer sponsorship jobs?
Orlando leads Florida for software systems engineer sponsorship activity, driven by the concentration of defense, aerospace, and simulation technology companies in the region. Miami follows closely, supported by a fast-growing tech and fintech sector. Tampa has seen significant employer expansion in recent years, with companies like Verizon and PwC maintaining engineering teams there. Melbourne and Cape Canaveral on the Space Coast also post regular openings tied to NASA and defense contracting.
How to find software systems engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Florida?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically to roles where employers have demonstrated willingness to sponsor work visas, making it more efficient than general job searches for software systems engineer positions in Florida. You can narrow results by state and role to surface openings at defense contractors, aerospace firms, and tech companies across Orlando, Miami, and Tampa. Reviewing LCA disclosure data from the Department of Labor can also confirm which Florida employers have filed on behalf of engineers in similar roles.
Are there state-specific factors that affect visa sponsorship for software systems engineers in Florida?
Florida's defense and aerospace industry concentration means many software systems engineer roles involve work on government contracts, which can require security clearances. Active clearances or eligibility can improve hiring outcomes but may limit sponsorship options, as some clearance-dependent roles are restricted to U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Florida also hosts several engineering programs at the University of Florida, University of Central Florida, and Florida Institute of Technology, which generate a pipeline of international students who enter the H-1B and OPT sponsorship process locally.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software systems engineer jobs in Florida?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
