Are you ready to create an unforgettable immersive experience? As an immersive designer, you know how to bridge the gap between art and engineering by creating meaningful narratives that engage users’ imaginations. Using interaction design techniques, you can create solutions for applications and demonstrations that play an important role in how government clients meet their missions.
We’re looking for someone like you to help us bring cutting-edge technology to the nation’s most challenging and impactful missions, including the development of digital twins that fuse real-world data with immersive environments to enable scenario planning, mission rehearsal, and operational insight.

Which companies sponsor visas for software systems engineers in Washington DC?
Defense contractors and federal IT consultancies are among the most active sponsors in the DC metro area. Companies like Booz Allen Hamilton, Leidos, SAIC, General Dynamics IT, and Palantir have consistent H-1B visa filing histories for systems engineering roles. Large tech firms with DC offices, including Amazon Web Services and Microsoft, also sponsor regularly for software systems engineers supporting government and commercial clients.
Which visa types are most common for software systems engineer roles in Washington DC?
The H-1B is the most common visa for software systems engineers in DC, requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, systems engineering, or a related field. The O-1A is an option for engineers with demonstrated exceptional ability. Candidates from Australia may qualify for the E-3 visa, and Canadian and Mexican nationals may be eligible under the TN visa for computer systems analyst roles.
How to find software systems engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Washington DC?
Migrate Mate filters software systems engineer roles specifically by visa sponsorship willingness, saving you from manually screening hundreds of postings. The platform surfaces DC-area employers with active H-1B filing histories for systems engineering positions, covering contractors, civilian agencies, and tech companies across the metro area. Searching Migrate Mate by role and location is a practical starting point for identifying sponsors in this market.
Which areas in Washington DC have the most software systems engineer sponsorship jobs?
Most sponsorship activity clusters in the broader DC metro rather than within the District itself. Northern Virginia, particularly Tysons Corner, Reston, and Arlington, hosts a dense concentration of defense contractors and cloud infrastructure firms that sponsor systems engineers. Bethesda and Rockville in Maryland also have significant activity driven by federal health agencies and their IT contractors.
Are there any DC-specific considerations for software systems engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Security clearance eligibility is a practical factor in the DC market. Many positions with defense contractors or federal agencies require or prefer candidates who can obtain clearance, and non-U.S. citizens face restrictions on obtaining most clearance levels. Engineers who focus on clearance-exempt commercial or civilian agency roles will find a broader pool of sponsorship-eligible positions. DOL prevailing wage requirements also apply, with DC wages indexed to a high-cost metro area.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software systems engineer jobs in Washington DC?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
