Which companies in Wisconsin sponsor visas for software systems engineers?
Fiserv in Milwaukee, Epic Systems in Verona, Johnson Controls in Milwaukee, and Rockwell Automation in Milwaukee have each filed H-1B petitions for software systems engineering roles in recent years. Northwestern Mutual and American Family Insurance also hire software systems engineers and have established sponsorship programs. These employers tend to have dedicated immigration support teams and internal processes for managing petitions.
Which visa types are most common for software systems engineer roles in Wisconsin?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for software systems engineers in Wisconsin, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field. Candidates from Canada or Mexico may also qualify for TN status under the USMCA. Those with exceptional recognition in their field may explore the O-1A, though it requires substantial documented achievement.
Which cities in Wisconsin have the most software systems engineer sponsorship jobs?
Milwaukee is Wisconsin's primary tech hiring hub, anchored by Fiserv, Johnson Controls, and Rockwell Automation. Madison follows closely, driven largely by Epic Systems, which employs thousands of software professionals in the Verona area just outside the city. Green Bay and Appleton have smaller but active tech sectors tied to manufacturing automation. For systems engineering roles specifically, Milwaukee and Madison account for the majority of sponsored positions.
How to find software systems engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Wisconsin?
Migrate Mate lists software systems engineer roles in Wisconsin filtered specifically for visa sponsorship, so you're not sorting through positions from employers who won't support international candidates. You can filter by city, employer, and visa type to focus your search. Given Wisconsin's concentration of systems engineering work in fintech, healthcare IT, and industrial automation, targeting employers in those sectors through Migrate Mate gives you the most relevant results.
Are there any Wisconsin-specific considerations for software systems engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Wisconsin's prevailing wage determinations for software systems engineers are set at the county level through the Department of Labor, and Milwaukee County wages tend to be benchmarked higher than rural Wisconsin counties, which affects LCA filing requirements for employers. The University of Wisconsin-Madison produces a significant pipeline of STEM graduates, meaning some Wisconsin employers are familiar with OPT and STEM OPT transitions as a pathway before H-1B sponsorship. Epic Systems, in particular, is known for hiring international talent through this route.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software systems engineer jobs in Wisconsin?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
