Which companies sponsor visas for software systems engineers in Pennsylvania?
Comcast and its technology subsidiaries are among the most active H-1B sponsors for software systems engineers in Pennsylvania. Other consistent sponsors include Lockheed Martin, Siemens, Unisys, SEI Investments, and QVC's parent company Qurate Retail. Philadelphia-based healthcare systems such as Jefferson Health and Penn Medicine also sponsor for software engineering roles supporting clinical infrastructure and data platforms.
Which visa types are most common for software systems engineer roles in Pennsylvania?
The H-1B is by far the most common visa for software systems engineers in Pennsylvania, as these roles typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, systems engineering, or a closely related field, satisfying the specialty occupation requirement. Employers with qualifying research or defense contracts occasionally sponsor L-1B transfers for intracompany specialists, and some university-affiliated positions support J-1 visa or OPT extensions for recent graduates.
Which cities in Pennsylvania have the most software systems engineer sponsorship jobs?
Philadelphia accounts for the largest share of software systems engineer sponsorship activity in Pennsylvania, driven by its concentration of finance, healthcare IT, and telecommunications employers. Pittsburgh is a strong second, anchored by Carnegie Mellon University's research spinoffs, Bosch, and a growing autonomous vehicle and AI sector. King of Prussia, just outside Philadelphia, hosts significant defense and government contracting firms that regularly sponsor systems engineering roles.
How to find software systems engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Pennsylvania?
Migrate Mate filters software systems engineer roles specifically by visa sponsorship status and state, so you can browse Pennsylvania-based openings without sifting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. The platform covers employers across Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and surrounding tech hubs, including defense contractors and fintech firms that frequently sponsor H-1B candidates for systems engineering positions. Setting up a targeted search by role and location on Migrate Mate is the most direct way to identify active opportunities.
Are there any state-specific considerations for software systems engineers seeking sponsorship in Pennsylvania?
Pennsylvania's defense and government contracting sector adds a layer of complexity for visa holders: some positions with Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, or federal agency contractors require security clearances, which non-citizens cannot hold, effectively limiting sponsorship to roles outside classified programs. On the positive side, Pennsylvania's university pipeline, particularly Carnegie Mellon, Drexel, and Penn, creates strong employer familiarity with OPT-to-H-1B transitions, which can make initial sponsorship conversations more straightforward at research-oriented or university-adjacent employers.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software systems engineer jobs in Pennsylvania?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
