Which companies sponsor visas for software systems engineers in Nebraska?
Omaha-based employers with documented H-1B visa sponsorship histories include Union Pacific Railroad, Mutual of Omaha, PaymentSpring, and TD Ameritrade (now under Schwab). Lincoln employers such as Nelnet and Hudl have also sponsored engineering roles. The University of Nebraska system sponsors cap-exempt H-1B petitions for qualifying research and academic positions, which can be a more predictable path than the annual lottery.
Which visa types are most common for software systems engineer roles in Nebraska?
The H-1B is the most frequently used visa for software systems engineers in Nebraska, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. Canadian and Mexican nationals sometimes enter under TN visa status using the engineer or computer systems analyst categories. O-1 visas are an option for engineers with demonstrated exceptional ability or recognition.
How to find software systems engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Nebraska?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for visa sponsorship, letting you search software systems engineer roles in Nebraska without wading through positions that exclude international candidates. Because Nebraska's tech market is concentrated in Omaha and Lincoln, filtering by those cities on Migrate Mate narrows results to employers actively hiring in the state's core engineering hubs, saving significant time compared to unfiltered searches.
Which cities in Nebraska have the most software systems engineer sponsorship jobs?
Omaha accounts for the majority of software systems engineer sponsorship activity in Nebraska, driven by its concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters, financial institutions, and logistics technology companies. Lincoln is the second-largest market, supported by the University of Nebraska, Hudl, and a growing startup community. Outside these two cities, sponsorship opportunities are considerably less frequent, so most international engineers focus their search on the Omaha-Lincoln corridor.
Are there state-specific considerations for software systems engineers seeking sponsorship in Nebraska?
Nebraska employers filing H-1B petitions must pay prevailing wages determined by the Department of Labor for the Omaha and Lincoln metropolitan statistical areas, which differ from national averages. The University of Nebraska is a cap-exempt institution, meaning it can file H-1B petitions outside the annual lottery window. Nebraska's insurance and financial services industries have specific compliance environments, so engineers in those sectors should expect employers to assess regulatory fit alongside technical qualifications during hiring.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software systems engineer jobs in Nebraska?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
