Which companies sponsor visas for software systems engineers in Washington?
Microsoft, Amazon, Boeing, Expedia Group, T-Mobile, Salesforce, and Google all have substantial engineering footprints in Washington and regularly sponsor visas for software systems engineers. Smaller tech firms and defense contractors in the Seattle and Bellevue areas also file sponsorship petitions, particularly for systems-level and infrastructure roles requiring specialized engineering backgrounds.
Which visa types are most common for software systems engineer roles in Washington?
The H-1B is the most common visa for software systems engineers in Washington, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. Applicants from Australia may qualify for the E-3 visa, Canadians and Mexicans for TN status, and individuals with multinational company backgrounds may qualify for L-1 transfers.
How to find software systems engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Washington?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it easier to identify software systems engineer roles in Washington where employers are actively willing to sponsor. Rather than sorting through general job postings, you can browse Washington-specific listings on Migrate Mate that are tagged for sponsorship, covering employers across Seattle, Bellevue, Redmond, and other hiring hubs in the state.
Which cities in Washington have the most software systems engineer sponsorship jobs?
Seattle and Bellevue account for the largest share of software systems engineer sponsorship roles in Washington, anchored by Amazon and Microsoft respectively. Redmond is a significant hub due to Microsoft's headquarters. Kirkland and Bothell also have notable concentrations of engineering employers. Outside the Puget Sound region, Spokane has a smaller but growing tech sector with some sponsorship activity.
Are there any state-specific considerations for software systems engineers seeking sponsorship in Washington?
Washington has no state income tax, which affects prevailing wage comparisons but not the federal H-1B wage requirements employers must meet. The state's deep aerospace and defense sector, alongside its consumer tech industry, means systems engineering roles can span both commercial software and safety-critical domains. University of Washington graduates in computer science and engineering form a well-established talent pipeline that many local employers actively recruit from and sponsor.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software systems engineer jobs in Washington?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
