Which companies in Michigan sponsor visas for software systems engineers?
Ford Motor Company, General Motors, and Stellantis are among the most active H-1B sponsors for software systems engineers in Michigan, particularly for roles in vehicle software, embedded systems, and connected car platforms. Beyond automotive, companies like Rocket Companies, Bosch, and Aptiv also file sponsorship petitions for systems engineering talent in the state.
Which visa types are most common for software systems engineer roles in Michigan?
The H-1B is the most common visa for software systems engineers in Michigan, as the role typically requires a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, meeting the specialty occupation standard. Candidates with Canadian or Mexican citizenship may qualify for the TN visa under the USMCA, which is a simpler process without a lottery.
How to find software systems engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Migrate Mate is a job board built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship. You can filter by role and state to browse software systems engineer positions in Michigan from employers with a history of sponsoring work visas. This is more targeted than general job searches because listings are sourced with sponsorship eligibility in mind, saving you time screening out employers who don't sponsor.
Which cities in Michigan have the most software systems engineer sponsorship jobs?
Detroit and its surrounding suburbs, including Dearborn, Auburn Hills, and Troy, account for the majority of software systems engineer sponsorship activity in Michigan, driven by the automotive industry's large engineering headcount. Ann Arbor is the second-strongest market, supported by the University of Michigan, a dense cluster of tech startups, and R&D offices from major technology and mobility companies.
Are there any Michigan-specific factors that affect visa sponsorship for software systems engineers?
Michigan's software systems engineering market is heavily tied to the automotive and mobility sectors, so many sponsored roles involve specialized skills in embedded software, vehicle networking protocols, or autonomous systems. Employers in these areas frequently work with large immigration counsel given the volume of petitions they file. University of Michigan and Michigan State University are notable pipelines, with OPT and CPT candidates often transitioning into full sponsorship at Michigan-based employers after graduation.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software systems engineer jobs in Michigan?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
