Which companies in Oregon sponsor visas for AI engineers?
Intel is one of Oregon's largest H-1B visa sponsors overall, with significant engineering operations in Hillsboro. Nike's technology division in Beaverton, Daimler Trucks North America, and a growing number of Portland-based AI startups also have sponsorship track records. Larger tech employers with established HR and legal infrastructure are generally more equipped to manage the sponsorship process than smaller firms.
Which visa types are most common for AI engineer roles in Oregon?
The H-1B is the most common visa for AI engineers in Oregon, as software and machine learning roles typically qualify as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field. Candidates with extraordinary ability may qualify for the O-1A. Australians working in AI roles may also be eligible for the E-3 visa, which has no lottery and is available year-round.
Which cities in Oregon have the most AI engineer sponsorship jobs?
Portland accounts for the majority of AI engineering sponsorship activity in Oregon, driven by its concentration of technology companies and startups. Hillsboro, home to Intel's large campus and part of the broader Silicon Forest region, is a significant secondary hub. Beaverton and Corvallis, where Oregon State University contributes a pipeline of engineering talent, also see meaningful employer sponsorship activity.
How to find ai engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Oregon?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically to roles where employers have indicated visa sponsorship availability, making it easier to identify AI engineer opportunities in Oregon without sorting through positions that exclude international candidates. You can filter by state and role type to focus on Oregon-based postings. Checking employers' H-1B disclosure data through the Department of Labor's OFLC database can also help you verify whether a specific Oregon company has sponsored similar roles historically.
Are there any Oregon-specific considerations for AI engineers pursuing visa sponsorship?
Oregon follows federal prevailing wage requirements, so employers must pay H-1B holders the higher of the actual or prevailing wage for the role and location. Portland's wage levels for AI engineering roles are benchmarked separately from rural Oregon, which affects what employers must offer. Oregon State University and the University of Oregon also generate OPT pipelines that some local employers are already familiar with, which can ease the sponsorship conversation.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored ai engineer jobs in Oregon?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
