Which fashion and apparel companies in Oregon sponsor F-1 STEM OPT visas?
Oregon is home to several major apparel employers with documented STEM OPT sponsorship activity. Nike, headquartered in Beaverton, regularly hires for data science, materials engineering, and digital product roles that qualify under STEM OPT. Columbia Sportswear in Portland sponsors roles in supply chain technology and product innovation. Smaller outdoor and sustainable apparel brands concentrated in the Portland area also participate, though sponsorship rates vary by company size and role type.
Which cities in Oregon have the most fashion and apparel F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs?
Portland and the surrounding metro area, including Beaverton and Lake Oswego, account for the overwhelming majority of fashion and apparel STEM OPT opportunities in Oregon. Nike's world headquarters in Beaverton alone drives significant demand for STEM-eligible roles. Portland's concentration of outdoor, athletic, and sustainable apparel brands creates a secondary cluster. Eugene has a smaller but present apparel manufacturing base, though corporate STEM roles there are limited compared to the Portland metro.
What types of fashion and apparel roles typically qualify for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship?
STEM OPT eligibility requires the role to align with a qualifying STEM degree classification. In fashion and apparel, positions that commonly qualify include product data analyst, materials science engineer, supply chain technology specialist, apparel CAD or product lifecycle management (PLM) engineer, and computational textile researcher. Roles in merchandising, buying, or brand marketing generally do not qualify unless they carry a strong data science or engineering component traceable to a STEM degree field.
How do I find fashion and apparel F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs in Oregon?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa type and industry, making it straightforward to search for fashion and apparel positions in Oregon that are open to F-1 STEM OPT candidates. Because STEM OPT eligibility depends on both your degree classification and the role's SOC code, Migrate Mate surfaces employers with verified sponsorship history in the apparel sector, helping you focus on companies in the Portland and Beaverton area that have actively hired STEM OPT workers rather than applying broadly.
Are there any Oregon-specific considerations for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship in fashion and apparel?
Oregon's apparel industry skews heavily toward outdoor, athletic, and sustainable brands, which tend to have stronger engineering and data functions than traditional fashion houses. This means STEM OPT candidates with degrees in materials science, industrial engineering, or data analytics may find better alignment here than candidates from design-focused programs. Oregon employers are also required to be E-Verify participants to hire STEM OPT workers, which most major apparel companies in the state already satisfy. Your university's DSO must authorize the STEM OPT extension before you begin working in any new role.
