Which companies sponsor visas for electrical engineers in Pennsylvania?
Several large employers in Pennsylvania have consistent histories of sponsoring work visas for electrical engineers. These include Siemens, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, PPL Corporation, and Comcast. Engineering consulting firms and defense contractors in the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh corridors are also active sponsors. Sponsorship patterns vary by employer and year, so reviewing Department of Labor LCA disclosure data is the most reliable way to verify a company's recent sponsorship activity.
Which visa types are most common for electrical engineer roles in Pennsylvania?
The H-1B is the most commonly used visa for electrical engineers in Pennsylvania, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a closely related field. Some employers also sponsor permanent residence through the EB-2 or EB-3 employment-based green card categories. Candidates with extraordinary ability may qualify for O-1 classification, though this requires a substantially stronger evidentiary record.
Which cities in Pennsylvania have the most electrical engineer sponsorship jobs?
Philadelphia accounts for the largest share of electrical engineer sponsorship jobs in Pennsylvania, driven by its concentration of defense contractors, utilities, and technology firms. Pittsburgh is a strong second, particularly in advanced manufacturing, robotics, and energy. Allentown and the Lehigh Valley have grown as an engineering hub, partly due to manufacturers and logistics companies expanding in the region. Reading and Harrisburg also have pockets of engineering employment tied to utilities and government contractors.
How to find electrical engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Pennsylvania?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship in the U.S., including electrical engineer roles in Pennsylvania. You can filter by state and job category to surface positions where employers have demonstrated sponsorship willingness. This is more efficient than general job searching because listings are curated with immigration context in mind, helping you focus on roles where sponsorship is a realistic part of the hiring conversation rather than an afterthought.
Are there any state-specific considerations for electrical engineers pursuing sponsorship in Pennsylvania?
Pennsylvania's strong university pipeline, including Penn State, Carnegie Mellon, Drexel, and the University of Pittsburgh, means employers are accustomed to hiring international graduates and navigating OPT-to-H-1B transitions. The state's energy sector, particularly around utilities and grid infrastructure, has ongoing demand for power systems engineers. Defense-related roles may involve security clearance requirements, which can affect visa-holding candidates since many clearances require U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residence.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored electrical engineer jobs in Pennsylvania?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
