Which visa types are most common for K-12 education roles in Pennsylvania?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for K-12 education roles in Pennsylvania, applicable to teachers in specialty occupations such as STEM subjects, special education, and bilingual programs where a specific bachelor's degree is required. The J-1 visa Exchange Visitor visa is also widely used, particularly through teacher exchange programs that place international educators in Pennsylvania public and charter schools for one to three years.
Which companies and school districts sponsor visas for K-12 education roles in Pennsylvania?
The School District of Philadelphia is the largest K-12 employer in Pennsylvania and has a documented history of sponsoring visas for teachers in high-need subject areas. Pittsburgh Public Schools and several charter management organizations operating in Philadelphia and Harrisburg have also filed for H-1B and J-1 sponsorship. Districts facing persistent shortages in STEM, special education, and English as a Second Language instruction are generally the most active sponsors.
Which cities in Pennsylvania have the most K-12 education visa sponsorship jobs?
Philadelphia accounts for the largest share of K-12 visa sponsorship activity in Pennsylvania, driven by the scale of its public school district and the density of charter schools. Pittsburgh is the second major hub, with both its public district and surrounding Allegheny County schools hiring international educators. Mid-sized cities including Allentown, Reading, and Lancaster also show sponsorship activity, particularly for bilingual and ESL teachers serving growing Spanish-speaking student populations.
How to find k 12 education visa sponsorship jobs in Pennsylvania?
Migrate Mate is a job board focused specifically on visa sponsorship roles across the United States, including K-12 education positions in Pennsylvania. You can filter by state and role category to surface teaching and support positions at districts and charter schools that have indicated sponsorship willingness. Because K-12 sponsorship openings are less frequently listed on general boards, a dedicated tool like Migrate Mate helps narrow the search to verified sponsorship opportunities.
Are there state-specific considerations for international educators seeking K-12 sponsorship in Pennsylvania?
Pennsylvania requires all classroom teachers to hold a valid Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) certification. International candidates typically need to have their foreign credentials evaluated by a PDE-approved agency before a district can proceed with sponsorship. Some districts assist with this process, while others require certification to be in progress or completed before making an offer. Subject areas with state-designated shortage status, including special education, mathematics, and science, tend to have more sponsorship-open employers.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored k 12 education jobs in Pennsylvania?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
