Which companies sponsor visas for backend software engineers in Tennessee?
Nashville-based employers are the most active sponsors. HCA Healthcare and its technology subsidiary HealthStream have filed H-1B petitions for backend engineering roles. Asurion, one of Nashville's largest tech employers, has a consistent sponsorship history. Fintech firms like Avenue Bank and logistics technology companies in the Nashville corridor also appear in DOL disclosure data. Knoxville's growing startup ecosystem and Oak Ridge National Laboratory add further opportunities.
Which visa types are most common for backend software engineer roles in Tennessee?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for backend software engineers in Tennessee. The role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. Candidates already holding OPT or STEM OPT can begin working while an H-1B petition is filed. L-1B visas apply for intracompany transfers with specialized knowledge, which is relevant to multinationals with Tennessee offices.
Which cities in Tennessee have the most backend software engineer sponsorship jobs?
Nashville accounts for the largest share of backend engineering sponsorship activity in Tennessee, driven by its healthcare IT and fintech sectors. Memphis has a smaller but active technology hiring market tied to logistics, supply chain software, and FedEx's technology operations. Knoxville benefits from proximity to Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the University of Tennessee, which generates demand for backend engineers in research computing and enterprise software.
How to find backend software engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Tennessee?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search backend software engineer roles in Tennessee without sorting through positions that won't support work authorization. The platform surfaces employers in Nashville, Memphis, and Knoxville who have indicated willingness to sponsor. Filtering by role and state gives you a focused list of active openings relevant to your backend engineering background.
Are there any state-specific considerations for backend software engineers seeking sponsorship in Tennessee?
Tennessee has no state income tax on wages, which affects prevailing wage comparisons since DOL wage levels are set federally and do not adjust for state tax differences. Nashville's healthcare IT concentration means backend engineers with experience in HL7, FHIR, or electronic health record systems may find more sponsoring employers than generalists. University of Tennessee and Vanderbilt University alumni networks also create pipelines into local employers with established H-1B sponsorship programs.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored backend software engineer jobs in Tennessee?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
