Which companies sponsor visas for backend software engineers in Kansas?
Garmin's Olathe headquarters, Oracle Health (formerly Cerner) in the Kansas City metro, and Koch Industries-affiliated companies in Wichita have sponsored backend engineers in the past. Aerospace and defense contractors around Wichita, including Spirit AeroSystems and Textron Aviation, also employ software engineers and have sponsored H-1B workers, though backend engineering roles vary by team and hiring cycle.
Which visa types are most common for backend software engineer roles in Kansas?
The H-1B is the most common visa for backend software engineers in Kansas, given that the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. The O-1A applies for engineers with exceptional ability. Canadians and Mexicans may qualify under the TN visa in the Computer Systems Analyst category, depending on job duties.
Which cities in Kansas have the most backend software engineer sponsorship jobs?
Overland Park and the broader Kansas City metro area account for the largest share of backend software engineering roles in Kansas, driven by Oracle Health, Garmin, and a growing cluster of fintech and SaaS companies. Wichita is the second-largest hub, supported by aerospace and manufacturing technology employers. Lawrence has a smaller presence, with some tech roles tied to University of Kansas research and affiliated companies.
How to find backend software engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Kansas?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to find backend software engineer roles in Kansas without sifting through positions that don't sponsor. You can filter by state and role to see active listings from employers in Overland Park, Wichita, and the Kansas City metro. Migrate Mate focuses exclusively on sponsoring employers, which saves significant time in the job search process.
Are there any state-specific considerations for backend software engineers seeking visa sponsorship in Kansas?
Kansas does not have state-level visa programs, so federal H-1B prevailing wage requirements set by the Department of Labor apply to all employers here. The Kansas City metro straddles the Kansas-Missouri border, and some employers list roles under Missouri addresses, so candidates should search both sides of the metro. University of Kansas and Kansas State University produce backend engineering graduates who sometimes transition to sponsored roles with local employers after OPT.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored backend software engineer jobs in Kansas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
