Which companies sponsor visas for backend software engineers in Indiana?
Salesforce, Eli Lilly, Rolls-Royce, and Cummins are among the Indiana employers with consistent H-1B sponsorship histories for backend software engineers. Indianapolis-based fintech and healthtech companies also appear regularly in Department of Labor LCA filings for backend roles. Sponsorship activity is most concentrated in the Indianapolis metro, though Bloomington employers tied to Indiana University also hire backend engineers with visa support.
Which visa types are most common for backend software engineer roles in Indiana?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for backend software engineers in Indiana, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. Some employers also use the L-1B for intracompany transfers of backend engineers with specialized knowledge. Candidates from Australia may find E-3 visa options with Indiana employers who are familiar with that category.
How to find backend software engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Indiana?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to find backend software engineer roles in Indiana without manually screening hundreds of postings. You can search by state and role type to surface employers who have actively filed LCAs or sponsored workers in Indiana. This saves significant time compared to generic job searches that don't surface sponsorship status upfront.
Which cities in Indiana have the most backend software engineer sponsorship jobs?
Indianapolis accounts for the large majority of backend software engineer visa sponsorship activity in Indiana, given its concentration of corporate headquarters, technology firms, and healthcare and fintech companies. Bloomington is a secondary hub, driven by Indiana University's research and tech ecosystem. Fort Wayne has a smaller but growing tech presence with some backend engineering hiring, particularly in manufacturing-adjacent software companies.
Are there any Indiana-specific considerations for backend software engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Indiana employers sponsoring H-1B backend engineers must meet Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements specific to the Indianapolis or Bloomington metropolitan areas, which differ from national averages. Indiana University and Purdue University both produce significant pipelines of computer science graduates, meaning employers are generally familiar with sponsoring international candidates from those programs. Backend engineers in life sciences software, a strong Indiana industry, should note that domain experience can strengthen sponsorship cases.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored backend software engineer jobs in Indiana?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
