Which companies sponsor visas for backend software engineers in Texas?
Large technology employers with significant Texas footprints, including Dell Technologies in Round Rock, Oracle and Apple in Austin, IBM and Hewlett Packard Enterprise in Houston, and AT&T in Dallas, regularly sponsor backend software engineers. Beyond these, Texas hosts a growing number of fintech companies, healthcare technology firms, and cloud infrastructure teams that appear consistently in DOL Labor Condition Application filings for backend engineering roles.
Which visa types are most common for backend software engineer roles in Texas?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for backend software engineers in Texas, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. Employers also sponsor L-1B transfers for engineers moving from international offices. Australian citizens working in Texas can use the E-3 visa, which has no lottery and renews indefinitely.
Which cities in Texas have the most backend software engineer sponsorship jobs?
Austin leads the state for backend engineering sponsorship volume, driven by its concentration of tech employers and startups. Dallas-Fort Worth is close behind, with strong demand from financial services technology teams and enterprise software companies. Houston adds meaningful volume through energy technology and healthcare IT sectors. San Antonio has a smaller but growing presence, particularly around cybersecurity and cloud infrastructure roles tied to military and federal contractors.
How to find backend software engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so backend software engineer roles in Texas that explicitly offer sponsorship are surfaced without having to sort through postings that don't. Search by role and state on Migrate Mate to see current openings from Texas employers who have a documented history of H-1B or other work visa filings for engineering positions.
Are there state-specific factors that affect backend software engineer visa sponsorship in Texas?
Texas has no state income tax, which can affect how employers structure compensation and prevailing wage compliance under DOL requirements. The University of Texas, Texas A&M, and UT Dallas produce large computer science graduating classes, creating both competition and a well-established pipeline that employers in the state are experienced navigating. Texas's lack of a state-level immigration framework means federal H-1B and E-3 rules apply without additional state-level complexity.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored backend software engineer jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
