Healthcare and logistics companies drive most project consultant sponsorship in Tennessee. HCA Healthcare and Vanderbilt University Medical Center sponsor roles tied to IT systems and operational projects in Nashville. FedEx and consulting firms supporting its Memphis logistics operations have filed for project-level positions. Engineering and infrastructure firms working with TVA in Knoxville also appear in Department of Labor LCA disclosure data for this role category.
Which visa types are most common for project consultant roles in Tennessee?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for project consultant roles in Tennessee, provided the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific technical or business discipline. Candidates with relevant Canadian or Mexican citizenship may qualify for the TN visa under the NAFTA/USMCA professional categories. L-1B visas apply when a consultant transfers from a foreign affiliated office to a Tennessee-based engagement, subject to specialized knowledge requirements.
Which cities in Tennessee have the most project consultant sponsorship jobs?

Memphis follows, with demand concentrated in logistics, supply chain, and operations consulting tied to its freight and distribution sector. Knoxville sees sponsorship activity around engineering and energy consulting, largely connected to TVA and the University of Tennessee's research partnerships.

Are there any state-specific considerations for project consultants seeking sponsorship in Tennessee?
Tennessee has no state income tax on wages, which affects prevailing wage comparisons since take-home pay differs from states with income taxes, though federal prevailing wage standards still apply to sponsored roles. Nashville's healthcare IT sector creates strong demand for consultants with clinical systems or EHR project experience. Candidates with degrees from Tennessee universities such as Vanderbilt or the University of Tennessee often have existing employer relationships that can accelerate sponsorship conversations.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored project consultant jobs in Tennessee?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
