Search Software Architect Jobs in TennesseeSoftware Architect Jobs in Tennessee: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies sponsor visas for software architects in Tennessee?
Healthcare technology is the dominant sponsorship source in Tennessee. HCA Healthcare, Change Healthcare, and Optum have consistent H-1B filing histories for senior engineering roles in Nashville. Beyond healthcare, FedEx's technology division in Memphis, Pilot Flying J in Knoxville, and several Oracle and Amazon development offices in the Nashville area have sponsored software architects in recent years. Defense and research contractors near Oak Ridge also hire at this level.
Which visa types are most common for software architect roles in Tennessee?
The H-1B is the most widely used visa for software architects in Tennessee, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related engineering field. L-1A and L-1B visas apply when architects transfer within a multinational company. O-1A is an option for candidates with documented extraordinary ability, such as patents, publications, or significant open-source contributions.
Which cities in Tennessee have the most software architect sponsorship jobs?
Nashville is clearly the primary market, driven by one of the largest healthcare technology concentrations in the country alongside a growing general tech presence. Knoxville is a secondary hub, with University of Tennessee research partnerships and proximity to Oak Ridge National Laboratory supporting demand for senior technical roles. Memphis contributes through logistics technology, with FedEx's global headquarters anchoring much of that activity.
How to find software architect visa sponsorship jobs in Tennessee?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search software architect roles in Tennessee without sorting through positions that don't support international candidates. The platform surfaces employers with active sponsorship histories, which is particularly useful in a state like Tennessee where healthcare IT and logistics tech drive most of the senior engineering demand. Filtering by city lets you target Nashville, Knoxville, or Memphis specifically.
Are there any state-specific factors that affect software architect sponsorship in Tennessee?
Tennessee has no state income tax, which affects prevailing wage benchmarking and total compensation comparisons employers use when filing Labor Condition Applications with the Department of Labor. The state's strong university pipeline through Vanderbilt, University of Tennessee, and Tennessee Tech means employers are familiar with sponsoring international graduate talent into senior roles over time. Healthcare IT regulatory specialization is also a practical consideration, as many architect roles here require familiarity with HIPAA-compliant system design.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software architect jobs in Tennessee?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
