Which companies sponsor visas for research technicians in Texas?
Texas Medical Center institutions in Houston, including MD Anderson Cancer Center and UTHealth, are among the most consistent sponsors for research technician roles. Texas A&M University, UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, and private life sciences companies such as Thermo Fisher Scientific and Zoetis also have established sponsorship track records. Academic medical centers and university research departments tend to sponsor more frequently than small private labs.
Which visa types are most common for research technician roles in Texas?
The H-1B is the most common visa for research technician positions that require a bachelor's degree in a specific scientific field, such as biochemistry, microbiology, or molecular biology. Some university-affiliated positions use the J-1 exchange visitor visa for short-term research appointments. Candidates with a master's or doctoral degree may also qualify under EB-2 or EB-3 employment-based green card categories if a sponsoring employer initiates permanent residency.
Which cities in Texas have the most research technician sponsorship jobs?
Houston leads by a significant margin, anchored by the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical complex in the world, which houses dozens of hospitals, research institutes, and biotech firms. Dallas and its suburbs, particularly through UT Southwestern and North Texas biotech employers, represent the second major cluster. Austin's growing life sciences sector and San Antonio's military medical research institutions also generate research technician openings with some sponsorship activity.
How to find research technician visa sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates and filters research technician jobs in Texas by visa sponsorship eligibility, saving you from manually screening hundreds of postings. Because research technician sponsorship is concentrated in academic medical centers and university labs, filtering by employer type on Migrate Mate helps you focus on institutions with established international hiring processes rather than smaller labs that rarely sponsor.
What should international research technicians know about working in Texas specifically?
Texas has no state income tax, which affects your net compensation relative to states like California or New York. Research technician roles at public universities such as UT Austin or Texas A&M are subject to federal prevailing wage requirements under H-1B rules, so offered wages must meet Department of Labor wage level standards for the specific occupation and geographic area. Houston and Dallas both fall within their own wage determination zones, meaning prevailing wages differ between those metros.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored research technician jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
