PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Assistant Pastry Chef is responsible for the production of baked goods and pastries for all banquets. They have full responsibility for bakery operations during the pastry chef's absence, including supervision of other bakers.
Responsibilities:
- Communicate frequently with the pastry chef about menu planning, scheduling, and any potential or current problems in the bakery and kitchen
- Produce high quality baked goods and pastries consistently
- Follow standard recipes and designated procedures in the bakery
- Be able to read and execute orders, ensuring that the food is prepared as specified in banquet sheets
- Manage inventory of baked goods and ingredients, plan the menu, and ensure proper food storage and rotation to minimize waste
- Properly use kitchen equipment, knives, and other tools
- Maintain a clean workspace
- Follow proper food handling practices to prevent food-borne illnesses and allergies, and ensure leftover products are wrapped, labeled, and stored properly
- Creatively use leftover ingredients/products to minimize waste
- Mail wholesale and special-order bills daily
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong baking expertise and leadership skills
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to work in hot temperature environments
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
