Which companies sponsor visas for laboratory workers in Utah?
ARUP Laboratories is one of Utah's largest laboratory employers and has a documented history of sponsoring H-1B visas for scientific and clinical roles. Intermountain Health, University of Utah Health, and biotech companies in Salt Lake City's growing life sciences corridor also appear in federal LCA disclosure data as laboratory visa sponsors. Research institutions tied to Utah's universities are additional sources of sponsorship.
Which visa types are most common for laboratory roles in Utah?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for laboratory professionals in Utah, particularly for roles requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific scientific field such as chemistry, biology, or clinical laboratory science. Research-focused positions at universities may also qualify for J-1 exchange visitor status. Candidates with extraordinary research credentials may explore the O-1A category, though it requires substantial evidence of distinction.
Which cities in Utah have the most laboratory sponsorship jobs?
Salt Lake City accounts for the majority of laboratory visa sponsorship activity in Utah, driven by ARUP Laboratories, University of Utah Health, and Intermountain Health. Provo and Orem have a smaller but growing cluster of biotech and research laboratory employers connected to BYU and Utah Valley University. Murray and West Valley City, as Salt Lake suburbs, also host clinical and diagnostic laboratory facilities that sponsor foreign workers.
How to find laboratory visa sponsorship jobs in Utah?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles offering visa sponsorship, making it easier to identify laboratory positions in Utah without sorting through employers who don't sponsor. You can search by role type and state to surface openings at clinical labs, research institutions, and biotech companies across Salt Lake City and Provo. Migrate Mate's listings are focused on international candidates, so sponsorship availability is already a baseline filter.
Are there state-specific factors that affect laboratory visa sponsorship in Utah?
Utah's life sciences sector has expanded steadily, with the University of Utah serving as a significant pipeline for laboratory talent and a source of sponsored research positions. The state's prevailing wage requirements for H-1B laboratory roles are set by the Department of Labor based on the Salt Lake City and Provo metropolitan areas, which generally reflect mid-tier cost-of-living conditions compared to coastal markets. ARUP Laboratories, as a national reference laboratory based in Salt Lake City, is a particularly active sponsor worth monitoring.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored laboratory jobs in Utah?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
