Which companies sponsor visas for product engineers in Wisconsin?
Wisconsin's strongest product engineer sponsorship activity comes from its manufacturing and technology sectors. Rockwell Automation and Johnson Controls in Milwaukee, Harley-Davidson in Menomonee Falls, and Epic Systems in Verona have all filed Labor Condition Applications for engineering roles. Medical device firms like Exact Sciences and industrial equipment manufacturers in the Fox Valley also regularly sponsor product engineers through the H-1B program.
Which visa types are most common for product engineers in Wisconsin?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for product engineer roles in Wisconsin, as most positions require a bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, computer, or industrial engineering, satisfying the specialty occupation requirement. Candidates from Canada and Mexico may qualify for TN status under the engineer category, which avoids the H-1B lottery entirely. O-1 visas are an option for engineers with documented extraordinary achievement, though this is less common.
Which cities in Wisconsin have the most product engineer sponsorship jobs?
Milwaukee is the primary hub, driven by its concentration of advanced manufacturing, industrial automation, and consumer goods companies. Madison follows closely, anchored by Epic Systems and a cluster of software and biotech employers connected to the University of Wisconsin. Oshkosh, home to Oshkosh Corporation, and Green Bay, with its packaging and paper industry employers, also generate product engineer sponsorship positions, particularly for hardware and manufacturing-focused roles.
How to find product engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Wisconsin?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search for product engineer roles in Wisconsin without sorting through positions that don't sponsor. Given how spread out Wisconsin's engineering employers are across Milwaukee, Madison, and smaller industrial cities, using Migrate Mate's location and role filters helps identify active openings at manufacturers, tech firms, and medical device companies that have a track record of sponsoring work visas.
Are there any Wisconsin-specific considerations for product engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Wisconsin's prevailing wage requirements under the H-1B program are benchmarked to the Milwaukee and Madison metro areas, which generally reflect Midwest rather than coastal pay scales. Engineers from University of Wisconsin campuses in Madison and Milwaukee sometimes transition from OPT or STEM OPT directly into sponsored roles with employers already familiar with the process. The state's manufacturing concentration means many product engineer roles are site-specific, so remote sponsorship arrangements are less common here than in purely software-focused markets.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored product engineer jobs in Wisconsin?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
