Which companies sponsor visas for project engineers in Wisconsin?
Wisconsin's largest visa sponsors for project engineers include Oshkosh Corporation, Kohler Co., Johnson Controls, and Rockwell Automation, all of which have submitted H-1B Labor Condition Applications for engineering roles. Civil and infrastructure firms working on state DOT projects also hire internationally. Manufacturing conglomerates in the Fox Valley region are consistent sponsors for roles requiring mechanical or industrial engineering backgrounds.
Which visa types are most common for project engineers in Wisconsin?
The H-1B is the most common visa for project engineers in Wisconsin, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree in engineering. Canadian and Mexican citizens may qualify for the TN visa under the NAFTA-successor agreement, which covers engineers and does not require lottery selection. Australian citizens may also be eligible for the E-3 visa, which functions similarly to the H-1B.
Which cities in Wisconsin have the most project engineer sponsorship jobs?
Milwaukee leads Wisconsin for project engineer sponsorship activity, driven by its concentration of manufacturing, construction, and energy employers. Madison follows, anchored by the University of Wisconsin system, state government contracts, and a growing tech-adjacent engineering sector. Green Bay and the Fox Valley corridor, home to paper, packaging, and industrial manufacturers, also generate meaningful sponsorship activity for project engineers.
How to find project engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Wisconsin?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship status, making it straightforward to browse project engineer roles in Wisconsin without sifting through postings from employers who do not sponsor. You can narrow results by location, sector, and visa type. Given Wisconsin's manufacturing and infrastructure focus, filtering by those industries on Migrate Mate tends to surface the most relevant open positions for international candidates.
Are there any state-specific considerations for project engineers seeking sponsorship in Wisconsin?
Wisconsin's engineering job market is heavily tied to its manufacturing base, so project engineer roles here often require hands-on industrial or mechanical experience rather than purely software-adjacent skills. Employers must pay H-1B holders the prevailing wage as determined by the Department of Labor for the specific Wisconsin county where the work is performed, which varies between Milwaukee, Dane, and more rural counties. UW-Madison and Milwaukee School of Engineering also serve as pipelines connecting international graduates to Wisconsin-based sponsors.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored project engineer jobs in Wisconsin?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
