Which companies in Wisconsin sponsor visas for senior software developers?
Epic Systems in Verona is one of the most active sponsors for senior software developers in Wisconsin, given its scale in healthcare software. Milwaukee-based employers like Fiserv, Northwestern Mutual, Johnson Controls, and Rockwell Automation also have established sponsorship histories for senior engineering roles. Smaller SaaS and enterprise software firms in the Madison and Milwaukee metro areas sponsor as well, though less frequently.
Which visa types are most common for senior software developer roles in Wisconsin?
The H-1B is the most common visa for senior software developers in Wisconsin, as these roles consistently qualify as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. Candidates with extraordinary ability may pursue the O-1A. Senior developers transferring within a multinational company may qualify for the L-1A or L-1B depending on their role and tenure.
Which cities in Wisconsin have the most senior software developer sponsorship jobs?
Madison and Milwaukee account for the majority of senior software developer sponsorship jobs in Wisconsin. Madison's tech sector is anchored by Epic Systems and a cluster of health IT and SaaS companies near the University of Wisconsin campus. Milwaukee draws senior engineering talent through its concentration of financial services and industrial technology firms. Green Bay and Appleton have a smaller but present pool of sponsoring employers.
How to find senior software developer visa sponsorship jobs in Wisconsin?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for visa sponsorship eligibility, making it straightforward to browse senior software developer roles in Wisconsin without sorting through positions that don't sponsor. You can search by state and role to surface opportunities at employers like Epic Systems, Fiserv, and Northwestern Mutual. Migrate Mate's focus on sponsorship-confirmed listings saves significant time compared to broad job searches.
Are there any Wisconsin-specific considerations for senior software developers seeking visa sponsorship?
Wisconsin's prevailing wage requirements under the H-1B program are set by the Department of Labor and reflect local market rates, which tend to be lower than coastal tech hubs. This can make Wisconsin employers more willing to sponsor at the senior level since the wage floor is more manageable. The University of Wisconsin-Madison also creates a consistent pipeline of OPT candidates who convert to H-1B sponsorship at Wisconsin employers.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored senior software developer jobs in Wisconsin?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
