Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as an AI Product Owner
Frame your role as a specialty occupation
USCIS requires a direct relationship between your degree and the role. Emphasize how your background in computer science, data science, or engineering maps specifically to AI product management, not just general product ownership.
Target employers with established AI product teams
Companies with dedicated AI divisions, such as enterprise software firms and cloud platforms, have legal infrastructure for sponsorship already in place and are more likely to initiate H-1B petitions for experienced AI Product Owners.
Quantify your AI product impact in applications
Sponsoring employers justify petitions to USCIS with job duty documentation. Highlight shipped AI features, model performance improvements, and cross-functional team leadership to make the specialty occupation argument concrete and defensible.
Understand the LCA wage tier before negotiating
Your employer files a Labor Condition Application certifying your wage meets prevailing levels for the role and location. Knowing which DOL wage tier your experience level falls under helps you negotiate from an informed position.
Consider O-1A if you have notable AI credentials
Published research, conference presentations, open-source contributions, or recognition in AI communities can qualify you for the O-1A extraordinary ability visa, which bypasses the H-1B lottery entirely and has no annual cap.
Start conversations with employers before the H-1B window
H-1B registration opens in March for an October 1 start date. Securing an offer three to four months earlier gives your employer time to prepare the petition and allows premium processing if your start date is time-sensitive.

Find AI Product Owner JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does an AI Product Owner role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes, AI Product Owner roles regularly qualify as specialty occupations when the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field such as computer science, data science, or engineering. The key is demonstrating that the role demands specialized theoretical and practical knowledge of AI and machine learning systems, not just general business or product management skills. Employers whose job descriptions require technical fluency in model evaluation, ML pipelines, or AI ethics frameworks present the strongest cases.
What degree does a sponsor need to document for an AI Product Owner H-1B petition?
The employer's H-1B petition must show the role normally requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific related field. For AI Product Owner positions, computer science, data science, engineering, or information systems degrees are the strongest fit. A general business or management degree alone can create complications unless paired with graduate-level AI coursework or equivalent documented technical experience, since USCIS scrutinizes whether the degree-to-role connection is specific enough.
How do approval rates look for H-1B petitions in AI product management roles?
Approval rates for AI and technical product roles have remained high relative to non-technical positions, largely because employers at established tech companies can document a clear degree requirement. USCIS denial risk increases when the job description is written too broadly or resembles a general manager role rather than a technically specialized one. Working with an experienced immigration attorney to draft the job duties section significantly reduces the chance of a Request for Evidence.
Can I find AI Product Owner jobs with H-1B sponsorship in one place?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It filters job listings by sponsorship willingness so you're not cold-applying to roles where the employer has no infrastructure or history of sponsoring visas. AI Product Owner roles on Migrate Mate are sourced from employers already familiar with the H-1B process, which reduces the friction of raising the sponsorship question early in the interview cycle.
Is the O-1A visa a realistic alternative for AI product professionals who miss the H-1B lottery?
For AI Product Owners with a track record of recognized contributions, the O-1A is a genuine alternative. USCIS evaluates O-1A petitions on criteria including published work, judging others' contributions, original contributions of major significance, and high-remuneration evidence. Conference talks at NeurIPS, ICLR, or industry AI events, open-source projects with significant adoption, or advisory roles at AI startups can all contribute toward meeting the standard. Unlike the H-1B, there's no cap and no lottery.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored AI Product Owner jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
