Target employers with a track record of finance sponsorship
Large corporations, hospital systems, and multinational companies file the most LCAs for finance management roles. Focusing your search on these employer types significantly improves your odds of finding genuine visa sponsorship.
Confirm your degree aligns with the specialty occupation standard
USCIS requires a bachelor's degree or higher in finance, accounting, economics, or a closely related field. A general business degree may work if your coursework was heavily finance-focused, be prepared to document it.
Understand that your employer leads the H-1B petition process
For H-1B sponsorship, the employer files Form I-129 and pays most fees. Your role is to provide credentials and documentation. Understanding this dynamic helps you ask the right questions during the hiring process.
Australian citizens should actively pursue E-3 sponsorship
The E-3 visa has no lottery and a 10,500 annual cap that has never been filled. For Australian finance professionals, this is a faster and more predictable path than the H-1B, and employers file year-round.
Canadian and Mexican citizens have a direct TN visa option
Accountants and financial analysts qualify under TN visa categories, and Manager of Finance roles often meet the standard. TN status can be obtained at the border without a petition, making it a streamlined sponsorship alternative.
Browse verified sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Not every finance job listing that mentions sponsorship follows through. Migrate Mate filters for employers who have actually filed for finance roles, so you spend time on applications with a real path to visa approval.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a Manager of Finance role qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Yes. Manager of Finance is generally recognized as a specialty occupation because it requires a bachelor's degree or higher in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field. USCIS has approved H-1B visa petitions for this title consistently, particularly at large employers where the role involves complex financial analysis, reporting, and strategic planning rather than general administrative oversight.
What degree do I need for a sponsored Manager of Finance position?
Most sponsoring employers and USCIS expect a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or business administration with a finance concentration. An MBA strengthens your petition considerably, especially for senior or strategic roles. If your undergraduate degree is in a different field, a CPA designation or significant coursework in finance-related subjects can help support the specialty occupation argument.
Are Manager of Finance roles included in the H-1B lottery?
Yes, unless your employer is a university, nonprofit research institution, or government research organization, those are cap-exempt and can file year-round. For most corporate employers, the H-1B cap applies, meaning your petition enters the annual lottery in March. Australians can bypass the lottery entirely using the E-3 visa, which has no random selection process.
How do I find Manager of Finance jobs where employers are genuinely open to sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find finance management roles from employers who have a documented history of visa sponsorship. Many standard job boards include "sponsorship considered" language without any verification behind it. Filtering by employers with actual LCA filings for finance roles gives you a more reliable shortlist to work from.
Does the Manager of Finance title cover enough seniority to satisfy USCIS?
USCIS evaluates the role's duties, not just the title. A Manager of Finance position that involves financial planning, budget oversight, reporting to senior leadership, and application of specialized financial knowledge typically satisfies the specialty occupation standard. Roles that primarily involve clerical supervision or routine bookkeeping without requiring a specific degree may face more scrutiny during adjudication.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Manager Of Finance jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
