Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor Jobs in Nevada: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a vocational rehabilitation counselor in Nevada?
Nevada vocational rehabilitation counselors working in the public system are typically hired through the Nevada Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, which requires at minimum a master's degree in rehabilitation counseling or a related counseling field. The Certified Rehabilitation Counselor credential, issued by the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification, is the recognized national standard and is strongly preferred or required by most Nevada public and private employers. Private sector positions may accept a licensed professional counselor credential issued through the Nevada Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors or a comparable Nevada counseling board depending on the setting.
Which companies hire vocational rehabilitation counselors in Nevada?
Nevada vocational rehabilitation counselor roles are posted by Renown Health, University Medical Center of Southern Nevada, and Sevita and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. The largest consistent employer is the state's own Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, which hires across district offices in Las Vegas and Reno to serve Nevadans with disabilities in returning to or entering the workforce.
Which Nevada cities have the most vocational rehabilitation counselor jobs?
Reno and Las Vegas have the most vocational rehabilitation counselor openings in Nevada. Las Vegas leads by volume because it is home to the largest concentration of state agency district offices, Dignity Health facilities, and community behavioral health organizations that carry ongoing caseloads, while Reno draws consistent openings through Renown Health and northern Nevada's growing workforce development programs, and Henderson reflects suburban growth in disability and rehabilitation services tied to the broader Las Vegas metro.
Are there remote vocational rehabilitation counselor jobs in Nevada?
Yes, but they are less common than in purely analytical roles because vocational rehabilitation counselors regularly conduct in-person assessments, attend employer meetings, and deliver community-based services. About 0% of vocational rehabilitation counselor openings tied to Nevada are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with the remote-eligible portions most often involving documentation, virtual case consultations, and telehealth-based counseling sessions with clients who have transportation barriers.
How can I get hired as a vocational rehabilitation counselor in Nevada with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a paid internship or practicum through the Nevada Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, which partners with master's programs to place supervised graduate students who often convert to full-time staff. Candidates without direct VR experience can move laterally from adjacent roles such as disability services coordinator, case manager, or workforce development specialist at organizations like Nevada's community mental health centers or workforce connections offices. Completing your CRC exam before graduation, or holding an active Nevada professional counseling license, gives a strong edge and makes you competitive for entry-level counselor positions before building a full caseload record.
