Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor Jobs in Washington: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a vocational rehabilitation counselor in Washington?
Washington requires most vocational rehabilitation counselors working in clinical or counseling capacities to hold a Licensed Mental Health Counselor credential issued by the Washington State Department of Health. Candidates typically complete a master's degree in rehabilitation counseling or a related counseling field, then satisfy supervised practice hours before applying for licensure. Earning the Certified Rehabilitation Counselor designation through the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification strengthens competitiveness for state agency and nonprofit roles.
Which companies hire vocational rehabilitation counselors in Washington?
Employers hiring vocational rehabilitation counselors in Washington right now include State of Washington, Grant And Associates, and Vocational Connections, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Washington's mix of state agency programs, large nonprofit disability service organizations, and integrated health systems creates steady demand for qualified rehabilitation counselors across the state.
Which Washington cities have the most vocational rehabilitation counselor jobs?
Spokane, Lacey, and Colville account for the most vocational rehabilitation counselor openings in Washington. Seattle drives the largest share of postings given the concentration of major health systems, nonprofit human services organizations, and state agency offices, while Spokane and Tacoma generate consistent openings through regional Division of Vocational Rehabilitation field offices and community rehabilitation programs serving those metro populations.
Are there remote vocational rehabilitation counselor jobs in Washington?
Yes, but they're limited. The role involves in-person client assessment, job site visits, and coordination with employers and service providers that cannot easily shift fully remote. About 0% of vocational rehabilitation counselor openings tied to Washington are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and where flexibility exists it tends to apply to documentation, case management coordination, and virtual counseling sessions rather than full caseload work.
How can I get hired as a vocational rehabilitation counselor in Washington with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a rehabilitation specialist or employment services coordinator role within Washington's Division of Vocational Rehabilitation or a contracted community rehabilitation provider while completing or recently finishing a master's program. The University of Washington's Rehabilitation Counseling program places graduates in supervised fieldwork with state and nonprofit partners, providing the hours needed for licensure. Adjacent roles in case management, disability services navigation, or benefits counseling at organizations like Goodwill of the Olympics and Rainier Region or Valeo Vocational Services can also bridge into a full rehabilitation counselor position.
Where can I find and apply to vocational rehabilitation counselor jobs in Washington?
You can find and apply to vocational rehabilitation counselor jobs in Washington on Migrate Mate, which lists current Washington openings updated regularly. Search the listings, find roles that match your experience and location, and apply directly to the employers posting them.
