AI Research Engineer Jobs in Delaware: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a ai research engineer in Delaware?
AI research engineer roles in Delaware do not require a state-issued license, so the path centers on education and demonstrated research output. Most employers in Delaware's pharmaceutical, fintech, and defense sectors expect at minimum a master's degree in computer science, machine learning, or a closely related field, with a PhD preferred for senior research positions. Building a portfolio of published work, open-source contributions, or documented model deployments strengthens applications at Delaware's major research-oriented employers.
Which companies hire ai research engineers in Delaware?
Delaware ai research engineer roles are posted by JPMorganChase, CVS Health, and The Bancorp and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Delaware's concentration of pharmaceutical headquarters, financial services firms, and federally connected defense contractors makes it a consistent source of applied AI research openings across multiple sectors.
Which Delaware cities have the most ai research engineer jobs?
Wilmington, Delaware, and Bear are the Delaware cities with the most ai research engineer openings. Wilmington drives the largest share thanks to its density of financial services headquarters and pharmaceutical R&D campuses, while Newark benefits from proximity to the University of Delaware and the technology-oriented employers clustered around it, and Dover contributes openings tied to state government technology initiatives and nearby defense-adjacent contractors.
Are there remote ai research engineer jobs in Delaware?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 50% of ai research engineer openings tied to Delaware are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how much of the work involves writing code, running experiments, and analyzing model outputs rather than being on-site. Fully remote arrangements are most common for roles focused on algorithm development and model research, while positions requiring access to proprietary data infrastructure or laboratory computing clusters tend to require in-person or hybrid presence.
How can I get hired as a ai research engineer in Delaware with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a research internship or graduate assistantship, and Delaware's pharmaceutical and fintech employers actively recruit through the University of Delaware's computer science and data science programs. Incyte and DuPont both run structured internship pipelines that have converted to full-time roles. Adjacent positions such as data analyst, machine learning engineer, or research associate are common lateral entry points, and a strong GitHub portfolio or a co-authored research paper carries significant weight when formal experience is limited.
