AI Researcher Jobs in Oklahoma: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a ai researcher in Oklahoma?
Most ai researcher roles in Oklahoma require at least a master's degree, and the majority of senior or principal positions expect a doctorate in computer science, artificial intelligence, or a closely related field. Oklahoma does not issue a state license for ai researchers, so the hiring path runs through academic credentials, a demonstrable research record, and domain expertise aligned with the state's dominant sectors: aerospace and defense, energy technology, and university research programs at institutions like the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University.
How much do AI researchers make in Oklahoma?
AI researchers in Oklahoma earn a median of about $93,100 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $71,930 for the lowest 10% to over $136,340 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire ai researchers in Oklahoma?
Companies currently hiring ai researchers in Oklahoma include CVS Health, Halliburton, and Waterfield Technologies, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Oklahoma's defense contractors, energy majors, and research universities are consistently among the most active employers for this role across the state.
Which Oklahoma cities have the most ai researcher jobs?
Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma City lead for ai researcher openings in Oklahoma. Oklahoma City anchors the market through its concentration of federal defense contractors and energy technology firms, Tulsa draws on its industrial research and engineering base, and Norman's University of Oklahoma campus supports a steady flow of academic and applied research positions that extend into the surrounding metro area.
Are there remote ai researcher jobs in Oklahoma?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 100% of ai researcher openings tied to Oklahoma are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the desk-based and computational nature of the work. Roles focused on model development, data analysis, and literature review tend to be the most remote-friendly, while positions tied to classified defense projects or lab infrastructure generally require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a ai researcher in Oklahoma with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a research assistantship or graduate fellowship at the University of Oklahoma or Oklahoma State University, where labs actively recruit students for funded projects in machine learning and data science. Candidates without a graduate degree can lateral in from adjacent roles such as data analyst or software engineer, particularly at Oklahoma City-based defense contractors and energy firms that run internal upskilling programs. Building a public project portfolio and completing a graduate certificate in machine learning strengthens any application substantially.
Where can I find and apply to ai researcher jobs in Oklahoma?
You can find and apply to ai researcher jobs in Oklahoma on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring in the state right now. Search the roles that fit your background, review the requirements, and apply directly to the ones that match your experience and location preferences.
