Architect Jobs in Kansas City: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an architect job in Kansas City?
Focus your search on the Downtown Core, Crossroads Arts District, and the Plaza, where the highest concentration of design firms, public agencies, and development-driven employers operate. Kansas City's strong infrastructure pipeline and ongoing mixed-use development in areas like the East Village and Westside create consistent demand. Candidates with experience in adaptive reuse, civic projects, or urban infill stand out, and familiarity with Kansas City's local approval processes gives a real edge.
Which companies hire architects in Kansas City?
Employers hiring architects in Kansas City right now include CRB, Conexon, and EVERSANA, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. The local market includes a mix of regional design firms, corporate real estate developers, civic agencies, and national firms with a Kansas City studio presence.
Are there remote architect jobs in Kansas City?
Yes, but with limits, since architecture is fundamentally a project-based, site-dependent discipline and most roles require some in-person time for design reviews, client meetings, and construction observation. About 86% of architect openings tied to Kansas City are remote or hybrid as of November 2026, and the remote-friendliest work tends to be schematic design, BIM production, and project coordination rather than construction administration.
How can I get an architect job in Kansas City with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Kansas City is through smaller regional design firms and public-sector employers like the City of Kansas City's Planning and Development Department, which regularly bring on intern architects and project support staff. Roles like junior designer, architectural drafter, or project coordinator are common starting points. Kansas City's active community development and affordable housing sector also creates entry-level opportunities that national firms rarely offer at this scale.
Which industries hire the most architects in Kansas City?
The sectors hiring the most architects in Kansas City are Technology & Software, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. Kansas City's ongoing downtown revitalization, healthcare campus expansions, and public infrastructure investments make these sectors the primary drivers of local architectural hiring.
