Graphic Designer Jobs in Missouri: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a graphic designer in Missouri?
Missouri does not require a state-issued license to work as a graphic designer, so the path runs through education and portfolio development. Most employers expect a bachelor's degree in graphic design or visual communications from a Missouri institution such as the Kansas City Art Institute, Washington University in St. Louis, or Missouri State University. Building a strong portfolio of brand, digital, and print work is the primary hiring credential in this state.
How much do graphic designers make in Missouri?
Graphic designers in Missouri earn a median of about $56,750 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $36,950 for the lowest 10% to over $83,270 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire graphic designers in Missouri?
Companies currently hiring graphic designers in Missouri include Clayco, MidwayUSA, and TOPS Products, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Missouri's mix of consumer brands, regional ad agencies, and large healthcare and financial institutions creates steady, year-round design demand across the state.
Which Missouri cities have the most graphic designer jobs?
Kansas City, Columbia, and St. Louis hold the most graphic designer openings in Missouri. Kansas City drives the largest share of demand through its concentration of consumer brands, advertising agencies, and corporate headquarters, while St. Louis adds openings through its healthcare systems, financial firms, and legacy CPG companies, and smaller markets reflect the design needs of regional employers headquartered there.
Are there remote graphic designer jobs in Missouri?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 17% of graphic designer openings tied to Missouri are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how well the role translates to distributed work. Brand and digital design positions are the most likely to be fully remote, while packaging, print production, and in-house agency roles typically require some on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a graphic designer in Missouri with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is landing a junior or assistant designer role at a Missouri ad agency, in-house creative department, or regional retailer by leading with a strong student or freelance portfolio. Large Missouri employers like Hallmark Cards and Bass Pro Shops periodically post entry-level design associate roles. Completing a relevant degree program at the Kansas City Art Institute or Missouri State University, building work through internships, and targeting coordinator or production artist titles are the most practical early-career moves.
Where can I find and apply to graphic designer jobs in Missouri?
You can find and apply to graphic designer jobs in Missouri on Migrate Mate, which lists current Missouri openings in one place. Search the roles available, identify the ones that fit your experience and specialty, and apply directly to each listing without any extra steps.
