Graphic Designer Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a graphic designer in Texas?
Texas does not require a state-issued license to work as a graphic designer. Most employers look for a bachelor's degree in graphic design, visual communications, or a related creative field from an accredited program, such as those offered at the University of Texas at Austin, Texas State University, or the Art Institute of Dallas. A strong portfolio demonstrating real project work carries as much weight as the degree itself when applying for roles.
How much do graphic designers make in Texas?
Graphic designers in Texas earn a median of about $60,150 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $36,340 for the lowest 10% to over $92,910 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire graphic designers in Texas?
Employers hiring graphic designers in Texas right now include Amazon, Photon, and STMicroelectronics, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large corporate headquarters, retail chains, and advertising agencies create steady in-house creative demand across the state.
Which Texas cities have the most graphic designer jobs?
Austin, Dallas, and Coppell have the most graphic designer openings in Texas. Dallas drives volume through its dense concentration of corporate headquarters and advertising agencies, Austin pulls heavily from its tech and startup ecosystem, and Houston's energy, healthcare, and retail sectors sustain consistent creative staffing needs across all three markets.
Are there remote graphic designer jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 9% of graphic designer openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how naturally the work translates to distributed teams. Brand, digital, and UX-adjacent design roles tend to offer the most remote flexibility, while packaging, environmental, and production-heavy positions are more likely to require an on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a graphic designer in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is building a focused portfolio of self-initiated or freelance projects and applying for junior designer or design coordinator roles at Texas agencies, in-house retail creative teams, or regional media companies. Large Texas employers like H-E-B and AT&T occasionally post entry-level creative associate positions suited to recent graduates. Community college certificate programs at Austin Community College or Dallas College can help candidates without a four-year degree demonstrate foundational skills to Texas hiring managers.
Where can I find and apply to graphic designer jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to graphic designer jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to Texas employers. Find roles that fit your experience and specialty, then apply directly to each one.
