Graphic Designer Jobs in Tennessee: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a graphic designer in Tennessee?
Graphic design is not state-licensed in Tennessee, so no board exam or registration is required to work here. Most employers expect a bachelor's degree in graphic design, visual communications, or a closely related field from a Tennessee institution such as MTSU, SCAD Atlanta's pipeline into the Nashville market, or Watkins College of Art. A strong portfolio carries as much weight as the degree itself, and many Tennessee employers treat it as the primary hiring criterion.
How much do graphic designers make in Tennessee?
Graphic designers in Tennessee earn a median of about $57,270 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $37,910 for the lowest 10% to over $92,540 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire graphic designers in Tennessee?
Employers hiring graphic designers in Tennessee right now include Euromarket Designs, Inc. (D/B/A Crate & Barrel And Cb2), Four Seasons, and Highline Warren, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Tennessee's concentration of healthcare, logistics, and entertainment companies means in-house creative roles tend to sit inside large corporate marketing departments rather than exclusively at agencies.
Which Tennessee cities have the most graphic designer jobs?
Knoxville, Green Hills, and Paris have the most graphic designer openings in Tennessee. Nashville dominates because of its dense cluster of healthcare, music industry, and tech-adjacent companies that all require ongoing creative output, while Memphis draws from FedEx's global marketing operations and its retail and logistics supply chain brands, and smaller markets like Knoxville and Chattanooga are growing as regional agency scenes expand.
Are there remote graphic designer jobs in Tennessee?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 11% of graphic designer openings tied to Tennessee are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how naturally desk-based and software-driven the work is. Brand, digital, and UX design roles are the most likely to be fully remote, while production and print-focused positions tend to require at least part-time on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a graphic designer in Tennessee with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a junior designer or design associate role at a Nashville or Memphis agency, where smaller teams regularly hire recent graduates willing to handle production tasks. Tennessee employers like HCA Healthcare and Bridgestone Americas occasionally post marketing coordinator or creative assistant roles that serve as on-ramps for candidates with a strong portfolio but limited experience. Building spec work for real Tennessee brands and completing a certificate in UX or digital design from an accredited Tennessee program strengthens your application considerably.
Where can I find and apply to graphic designer jobs in Tennessee?
You can find and apply to graphic designer jobs in Tennessee on Migrate Mate, which lists current Tennessee openings updated regularly. Find the roles that fit your experience and specialization and apply directly to each one.
