About McKesson Medical-Surgical
McKesson Medical-Surgical (MMS) is a subsidiary and publicly reported segment of the McKesson Corporation. MMS distributes medical-surgical supplies, pharmaceuticals, diagnostic equipment and supplies, along with other solutions and services to virtually every type of healthcare setting and provider outside of the traditional hospital. These markets – often referred to as Alternate Care or Non-Acute Care – include physician offices, surgery centers, long-term care providers, laboratories, home health and hospice agencies, health systems, government facilities and online marketplaces and retailers.
Alternate Care markets are growing rapidly and MMS is proud to be a leader in this space. With a team of approximately 8,000 employees, a network of 15 distribution centers and approximately 900 delivery vehicles, we partner with more than 2,200 leading manufacturers and serve over 200,000 customer accounts across the U.S. Our catalog includes more than 280,000 SKUs of branded and private-label medical-surgical products – from bandages to specialty pharmaceuticals and COVID-19 tests.
Looking Ahead: A New Chapter for MMS
McKesson has announced its intent to separate MMS into an independent company by taking it public through an initial public offering (IPO). The separation could be completed by the second half of calendar year 2027, pending market factors and regulatory approvals. This is an exciting evolution that builds on MMS’s strong foundation and proven leadership in the Alternate Care space. As a standalone company, MMS would be positioned to unlock new opportunities to innovate, grow and lead with even greater agility and focus. We will also continue to be one of the largest medical-surgical distributors in the U.S., with over $11B in annual sales. This separation would accelerate our mission and empower us to shape a future defined by customer-centricity, bold thinking and operational excellence. For job seekers, it’s a unique moment to join a team that’s already making a meaningful impact and leading the way in shaping the future of healthcare delivery in Alternate Care settings – with even greater opportunity ahead as we prepare to become an independent company.

Architect Jobs in Richmond: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a architect job in Richmond?
Richmond's strongest hiring comes from architecture firms serving government agencies, healthcare systems, and the city's growing mixed-use development market. Concentrating on firms near the Downtown and Carytown corridors, building a portfolio that reflects adaptive reuse or civic projects, and attending AIA Virginia events held in Richmond gives candidates a concrete edge in this market.
Which companies hire architects in Richmond?
Richmond architect roles are posted by UST, Ferguson, and CapTech Consulting and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. The local market includes regional design firms, large healthcare and university systems with in-house architecture teams, and general contractors who embed architects in project delivery roles.
Are there remote architect jobs in Richmond?
Yes, though remote work is uncommon for architects in roles requiring site visits or construction administration, and more available for design, drafting, and specification writing phases. About 60% of architect openings tied to Richmond are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the portion that skews toward design production rather than field work. Firms working on federal or commercial projects locally tend to offer the most hybrid flexibility.
How can I get a architect job in Richmond with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Richmond is through internship-to-hire programs at mid-size regional firms that work on government and institutional projects, where supervision structures support emerging professionals. Targeting architectural technician or drafter roles at firms in the Downtown or West End, and volunteering with Richmond's Historic District Review Board or urban planning initiatives, builds a locally recognized portfolio that stands out to Richmond hiring managers.
Which industries hire the most architects in Richmond?
Most architect openings in Richmond sit in Technology & Software, Construction & Real Estate, and Healthcare & Medical Services, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Richmond's role as a state capital drives steady public-sector and institutional demand, while ongoing residential and commercial development in neighborhoods like Scott's Addition and Manchester sustains private-sector hiring throughout the year.
