UX Product Design Jobs in Virginia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a ux product design in Virginia?
Virginia has no state-issued license or registration specific to ux product design, so entry depends on education and portfolio. Most Virginia employers expect a bachelor's degree in interaction design, human-computer interaction, graphic design, or a related field, though some accept equivalent experience. Building a portfolio that documents your process from research through final UI is the practical requirement that Virginia hiring managers consistently cite as decisive when evaluating candidates at any level.
How much do UX product designs make in Virginia?
UX product designs in Virginia earn a median of about $82,230 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $59,080 for the lowest 10% to over $101,270 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire ux product designs in Virginia?
Employers hiring ux product designs in Virginia right now include MITRE, Ferguson, and IntelliDyne, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Virginia's concentration of defense contractors and federal consulting firms means a meaningful share of openings involve clearance-eligible or government-facing product work alongside commercial technology roles.
Which Virginia cities have the most ux product design jobs?
McLean, Arlington, and Alexandria have the most ux product design openings in Virginia. Northern Virginia dominates because of its dense cluster of federal agencies, defense contractors, and technology firms headquartered in the region, while Richmond draws openings from financial services companies and growing commercial software teams, and Hampton Roads hiring is driven largely by military-adjacent technology and government services employers.
Are there remote ux product design jobs in Virginia?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 57% of ux product design openings tied to Virginia are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how naturally the role adapts to distributed collaboration tools and async design reviews. Research, wireframing, and stakeholder presentations are the parts of the work most commonly done fully remote, while roles involving classified government systems tend to require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a ux product design in Virginia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an associate or junior product designer role at a Virginia-based technology consultancy or federal contractor, where teams are large enough to support new designers with structured mentorship. Firms like Booz Allen Hamilton and Leidos run rotational or early-career programs that accept candidates with strong portfolios even without industry experience. Adjacent roles such as UX researcher assistant, UI coordinator, or business analyst at software-focused Virginia agencies are also common lateral entry points, and completing a recognized UX certification strengthens a candidate's application when direct experience is limited.
Where can I find and apply to ux product design jobs in Virginia?
You can find and apply to ux product design jobs in Virginia on Migrate Mate, which lists current Virginia openings from employers actively hiring right now. Find roles that fit your experience and apply directly to each one.
