INTRODUCTION
Skydio is the leading US drone company and the world leader in autonomous flight, the key technology for the future of drones and aerial mobility. The Skydio team combines deep expertise in artificial intelligence, best-in-class hardware and software product development, operational excellence, and customer obsession to empower a broader, more diverse audience of drone users, from utility inspectors to first responders, soldiers in battlefield scenarios, and beyond.
The Challenge
Our products are used by professionals with a lot on the line, operating in rugged environments where every second counts. Their mission is clear: find the missing person, get the lights back on, keep the roads open, and keep the good guys safe. Our mandate is to solve one of the most complex problems of our time: how to build autonomous flying robots that help them get the job done, no matter what. If reading that excites you, we want to talk to you. Skydio isn’t just building drones; we are defining the future of autonomous robotics. To win, our products must be more than just capable, they must be undeniably reliable.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
We are looking for a UX Product Design Lead who understands that trust isn't a buzzword; it's built through absolute system transparency, pragmatic workflows, and giving the operator a clear handle to grab when things get chaotic. You will help us invent the interfaces of the future. You will not be designing generic dashboards. You will be designing the critical trust-bridge between human operators and advanced AI hardware, translating extreme technological complexity into intuitive, reliable, and beautiful experiences.
About The Role
As a Design Lead, you are a trailblazer. You thrive on solving problems that have never been solved before. You are equal parts strategic storyteller and hands-on craftsperson. You don't just wait for product requirements; you help define the vision, use narrative to align Engineering and Product, and execute with an incredibly high bar for detail. You will work directly with Design Leadership, Product Managers, and Engineers to map out Critical User Journeys (CUJs) and build cross-platform experiences (Web, Mobile, Ground Control Stations) that our customers implicitly trust.
How You'll Make An Impact
- Design for Trust: Lead the UX strategy and execution for our core platforms (including remote operations). You will build interfaces for autonomous flying robots that make the operator trust the job will get done, ensuring every interaction reinforces confidence, reliability, and system transparency.
- Solve Unsolved Problems: Tackle complex challenges where there is no existing playbook. You will think pragmatically and creatively to design interfaces for remote hardware sensing, 3D spatial awareness, and AI-driven missions.
- Drive the Narrative: Use exceptional storytelling to communicate user needs, frame complex problems, and align Engineering, Product Management, and Executive leadership around a unified, grounded design vision.
- Elevate the Craft: Bring an uncompromising attention to detail and craftsmanship to the team. You will build high-fidelity prototypes to test assumptions quickly, leveraging AI tools as a seamless part of your daily process to move faster and explore wider.
- Get in the Field: Go on-site with our customers to deeply understand their chaotic, high-stress environments. Bring that "ground truth" back to the studio so it informs every pixel.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- First-Principles Problem Solver: You are an out-of-the-box thinker who loves operating in ambiguous spaces where no existing design patterns exist.
- Uncompromising Craftsmanship: A portfolio that clearly demonstrates an exceptionally high bar for visual design, complex systems architecture, and attention to detail.
- Strategic Leadership: You have a proven track record of driving design strategy at a senior/lead level, actively shaping product roadmaps rather than just taking orders.
- Fluency in Complexity: Demonstrated experience shipping products in highly technical disciplines. We want to see portfolios featuring: Robotics Controls, Avionics, Geospatial/Mapping, Heavy Data/Fleet Management, or Remote Hardware Sensing.
- Prototyping Chops ("You Build to Think"): You can quickly mock up interactive prototypes to prove out concepts before Engineering writes a line of production code. You also actively integrate AI tools into your daily workflow to increase velocity and explore wider.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Deep understanding of Android-based HIG and Mobile Design Patterns for physical hardware controllers.
- Front-end coding ability (HTML/CSS/Javascript) to help bridge the gap with engineering.
- Obtaining FAA Part 107 certification within the first 60 days of employment is strongly encouraged for all Skydio employees and required for certain positions.

Tips for Your UX Product Design Job Search
Tailor your portfolio to product outcomes
Recruiters and hiring managers skip portfolios that show only polished screens. Lead each case study with the problem, your decision-making process, and a measurable product outcome. Three deep, contextualized projects outperform ten visual showcases every time.
Match your resume to the job level
A resume written for a mid-level IC role will read wrong for a staff or principal opening. Adjust how you frame ownership, cross-functional scope, and ambiguity. Senior listings often filter for systems thinking and org influence, not just feature delivery.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists ux product design openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Read job descriptions for implied team signals
Phrases like 'you will define the research process' signal a zero-to-one build environment. 'Partner with an existing design system' signals a mature, scaled product org. Matching your experience to those signals makes your cover note land faster.
Prepare a design critique for your portfolio review
Most interviews include a live critique of your own work or a prompt you have not seen before. Practice narrating your tradeoffs out loud, not just your final decisions. Interviewers weight your reasoning process at least as heavily as your visual output.
Negotiate scope alongside salary
After an offer, ask about design influence in the roadmap process, access to user research, and the design-to-engineering ratio on your team. These factors affect your day-to-day more than title, and the answers often reveal whether the role matches how it was advertised.
UX Product Design Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most ux product designs?
The companies hiring the most ux product designs right now include Amazon, Affirm, and Adobe, with the largest share of openings in California, New York, and Washington, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand is concentrated at companies scaling consumer-facing products and enterprise platforms.
How many ux product design jobs are remote?
About 39% of ux product design openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, making it one of the more location-flexible disciplines in product development. Roles focused on early-stage research or design systems tend to offer the highest share of remote options, while positions tied to hardware or in-person user testing more often require on-site presence.
How do you become a ux product design?
Start by building foundational skills in interaction design, visual hierarchy, and user research through coursework, bootcamps, or self-directed practice. Assemble a portfolio with case studies that show your process from discovery to delivery. Seek out internships, contract work, or volunteer projects to add real product context. Proficiency in Figma and a working understanding of how engineers implement designs will make you competitive for entry-level openings.
How do you get hired as a ux product design with little experience?
Focus your portfolio on depth over volume, even if the projects are speculative or personal. Redesign an existing product you use, document your research and decisions, and articulate what you would ship differently next time. Applying to associate or junior roles at agencies or startups is often more accessible than enterprise positions, which typically require prior team collaboration you can reference directly.
What does the ux product design interview process look like?
Most ux product design interviews run across several stages: an initial recruiter screen, a hiring manager conversation about your background and process, a portfolio presentation or walkthrough with the design team, and a design exercise or take-home prompt. Final rounds often include cross-functional panels with product managers or engineers. The portfolio presentation is usually the weightiest stage, so prepare to narrate your tradeoffs and respond to critique in real time.
Where can I find and apply to ux product design jobs?
You can find and apply to ux product design jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States in one place. Search the listings for roles that match your experience level and specialization, then apply directly to each one that fits.
