INTRODUCTION
Who we are
About Stripe
Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world's largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone's reach while doing the most important work of your career.
About The Team
The Product Design team defines and delivers user-facing experiences across Stripe. Product Designers work closely with engineers, product managers, researchers, strategists, operations, data scientists, and marketers to shape products from early strategy through launch and iteration. You'll join the Risk team, where design shapes how businesses get started on Stripe, stay compliant, and grow with confidence. Stripe's ability to innovate, expand globally, and serve the world's most ambitious companies depends on world-class risk management. But great risk management requires clear, trustworthy, and surprisingly well-crafted experiences during some of the most important moments in a user's relationship with Stripe. From onboarding and verification to account health, your work will help users understand what's happening, know what to do next, and feel confident that Stripe is growing with them as a trusted partner. Risk at Stripe is also evolving into a product pillar in its own right. As Stripe builds more modular, configurable, API-first risk capabilities, we have the opportunity to turn internal strength into external products for some of the largest and most innovative companies in the world to leverage. This role will shape that future.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This role sits at the intersection of building trust in the internet economy, platform design, and new product creation, making it one of the most strategically important design opportunities at Stripe. You'll lead design across critical Risk experiences, shaping the strategy for new products, defining AI-driven and agent-friendly workflows, and setting design standards for the team. It's a strong fit for a designer who is energized by ambiguity, motivated by impact, and excited to shape the future of how businesses get started and grow on Stripe.
- Shape the future of Risk at Stripe, from core user journeys to entirely new product surfaces
- Design experiences that help users onboard quickly, stay compliant, and manage risk with clarity and control
- Partner with product, engineering, policy, operations, and research to define both near-term improvements and longer-term opportunities
- Raise the craft bar in a domain where quality and trust matter deeply
- Work across dozens of teams to create beautiful patterns for risk and compliance experiences across Stripe
WHO YOU ARE
We're looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- 12+ years of experience designing products
- A strong portfolio demonstrating excellent craft, systems thinking, and end-to-end design, including a strong understanding of AI tools
- Experience leading complex product work in close partnership with product management and engineering
- Experience shaping ambiguous spaces and driving clarity through design
- A track record of influencing cross-functional teams and product direction
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Thrive in environments where the opportunity spans systems, strategy, and 0-1 product thinking
- Enjoy turning complex systems, policies, and edge cases into elegant product experiences
- Are energized by ambiguous, strategic problem spaces—not just well-defined execution
- Are an influential storyteller who can align partners around a clear point of view
- Can move fluidly between big-picture thinking and interaction-level craft
- Know how to build trust through design, especially in high-stakes or sensitive user moments
- Work well across disciplines and build credibility with technical, operational, and policy-oriented partners
Hybrid work at Stripe
This role is available either in an office or a remote location (35+ miles or 56+ km from a Stripe office).
In-office expectations
Office-assigned Stripes spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This hits a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility about how to do this in a way that makes sense for individuals and their teams.
Working remotely at Stripe
A remote location is defined as being 35 miles (56 kilometers) or more from one of our offices. While you would be welcome to come into the office for team/business meetings, on-sites, meet-ups, and events, our expectation is you would regularly work from home rather than a Stripe office. Stripe does not cover the cost of relocating to a remote location. We encourage you to apply for roles that match the location where you currently live or plan to live.
PAY AND BENEFITS
The annual US base salary range for this role is $191,300 - $286,900. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and location. Applicants interested in this role and who are not located in the US may request the annual salary range for their location during the interview process.
Additional benefits for this role may include: equity, company bonus or sales commissions/bonuses; 401(k) plan; medical, dental, and vision benefits; and wellness stipends.

Tips for Your Senior Staff Product Designer Job Search
Reframe your portfolio around influence
At the senior staff level, hiring teams want to see how your design decisions shaped product strategy, not just shipped features. Annotate each case study with the org-level problem you were solving and who you aligned to get it done.
Quantify system scale, not just outcomes
Senior staff roles live or die on your ability to build design systems others rely on. Call out the number of product surfaces your system covered, the teams consuming it, and the governance model you put in place to keep it coherent.
Target roles where design has a seat at the table
Read job descriptions for signals like 'partner with CPO,' 'define design strategy,' or 'shape roadmap.' If the posting only mentions execution and delivery, the role may be scoped below what you need to keep growing.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists senior staff product designer openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Prepare a cross-functional alignment story
Interviewers at this level consistently probe how you handle disagreement with engineering or product leadership. Prepare a specific example where you changed the outcome by reframing a design question, not by deferring or escalating.
Negotiate scope before negotiating anything else
In offers for senior staff roles, the reporting line and team structure often matter more than the base. Before discussing compensation, clarify whether you own a function or are an individual contributor embedded in one product area.
Senior Staff Product Designer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most senior staff product designers?
The companies hiring the most senior staff product designers right now include Intuit, Adobe, and Aurora Innovation, with the largest share of openings in California, New York, and Washington, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand is strongest at companies scaling platform products or consolidating fragmented design systems across business units.
How many senior staff product designer jobs are remote?
About 50% of senior staff product designer openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how design leadership has adapted to distributed team structures. Roles focused on design systems, platform UX, and design operations tend to have the highest remote availability, while roles requiring close collaboration with early-stage product teams more often require on-site presence.
How do you become a senior staff product designer?
You typically reach senior staff by demonstrating impact beyond your immediate team. That means owning a design system or platform function, mentoring other senior designers, and shaping product direction at the org level. Most designers get there by taking on ambiguous, cross-functional problems that weren't assigned to them and delivering visible outcomes that influenced how the company builds products.
Can you get hired as a senior staff product designer without direct staff-level experience?
Yes, but you'll need to reframe your existing experience in staff-level terms. Identify projects where you set design direction for a product area, influenced roadmap decisions, or built infrastructure other designers relied on, even if your title was senior designer. A strong portfolio that shows systems thinking, stakeholder alignment, and mentorship will carry more weight than your title history in most interview processes.
What does the senior staff product designer interview process look like?
The process typically runs four to six rounds. An initial screen with a recruiter or design manager is followed by a portfolio review where you walk through two or three case studies in depth. Later rounds include a cross-functional systems design exercise, a leadership and influence interview with a product or engineering leader, and a final conversation with a design director or VP. Some companies also include a take-home prompt focused on strategy rather than execution.
Where can I find and apply to senior staff product designer jobs?
You can find and apply to senior staff product designer jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Search the listings to find roles that match your background and apply directly to each one that fits.
