Assistant Project Manager
Role
The assistant project manager is assigned to assist the on-site Project Manager. The Assistant Project Manager receives direction and supervision from the Project Manager. The assistant Project Manager assists the project manager in his daily duties, which include producing quality craftsmanship on time and on budget and with providing exceptional client service for a superior remodeling experience. They will learn from the project manager, who is experienced and knowledgeable in all phases of construction from foundations to trim-out, the following: people skills, management techniques, and abilities to effectively orchestrate labor, materials, subcontractors and building inspectors that are crucial to the success of the projects.
Customer Satisfaction
You are responsible for:
1. Accurately representing and upholding the principles of the company and conducting yourself in a manner consistent with the company’s objectives and mission
2. The project manager is the customer's primary contact for all job-related questions and communication. If the customer attempts to inform you of job changes or asks you production and scheduling questions, politely inform the customer that such questions and information should be communicated directly to the project manager.
3. Keeping the job site clean:
a. Straighten and pick up the site on a daily basis and broom-clean on Fridays or as necessary for safety and efficiency.
b. Remove nails and other debris from driveways daily and from yard regularly.
c. Do not allow food or drink items to be thrown in dumpster (rodents, insects, stench).
Carpentry Labor
You are responsible for assisting the Project Manager if directed in:
1. Reviewing and understanding the plans, specifications and in-house labor budget for specific phases and work tasks
2. Getting answers to questions when plans, specifications and in-house labor budget are unclear
3. Planning ahead and being prepared on a daily basis so that the right materials, tools, equipment and staff are on site and ready for the tasks at hand
4. Strictly avoiding staff standing around idle while their work is being planned or staged
5. Supervising carpentry work, general labor and other staff-performed work to ensure conformance with company standards and specifications
6. Performing lite carpentry work, general labor and other work as needed for the progress of the job
Supervision and Scheduling of Subcontractors
You are responsible for assisting the Project Manager by:
1. Reviewing and understanding plans, specifications, site conditions and budget amounts for all subcontracted work
2. Being fully prepared for the subcontractor on the day they are scheduled with no idle time due to incomplete or last-minute planning and preparation
3. Checking each subcontractor's work when they are finished to ensure quality, completeness and conformance with their purchase order
4. Making sure the subcontractor cleans up after themselves
Inspections
You are responsible for:
1. Knowing the process of getting an inspection in all jurisdictions in which we work
2. Staying as current as possible on codes that affect your work
Material Management
You are responsible for:
1. Ordering the proper amount of materials to ensure that trips to the lumberyard during the working day are limited to one every two weeks
2. Receiving material deliveries, signing receipts and checking for accuracy of the material, quantity and measurement of the delivery and for quality, damage or defects
3. Returning undamaged materials that cannot be used at the first available time
4. Storing materials in a way that reduces damage or theft after they are delivered to the site
Maintenance of Job Paperwork & Project Management Software
You are responsible for:
1. Completing your time card by the end of each day and submitting thorugh PM software. Your conscientiousness and accuracy in reporting your hours is absolutely crucial to our ability to account for and report job costs to your project manager and to our customers.
2. Updating the Project Management software as directed by the Project Manager. i.e Photos and Daily Logs.
General Job Requirements
1. Demonstrate proficiency at reading blueprints.
2. Have specified hand and power tools.
3. Maintain a professional appearance at all times.
4. Have a valid Tennessee driver's license, proof of insurance, and a reliable truck or van, preferably late-model kept clean and dent-free.
5. Read and write to a minimum of a 12th grade level.
6. Be fluent in reading, writing and speaking English.
7. Be organized.
8. Be able to lift loads of 60 lbs.
9. Be able to work on ladders up to 30 ft. off the ground and roofs up to 50 ft. off the ground.
10. The workday's start and finish times will vary according to the requirements of the job as set by the project manager. Typical schedules are 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., 7:30 a.m. - 4 p.m., 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
