Position Specific Description
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our Engineering & Construction team with a primary focus on data center projects and their integration with utility-scale generation and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). This engineer will serve as a technical anchor for large-load projects, lead technical discussions with Engineers of Record (EORs), and mentor and support project engineers across the project lifecycle. The role blends deep electrical engineering fundamentals with cross-functional program leadership in a fast-evolving area of the power industry.
Key Responsibilities
Data Center & Large-Load Engineering
Develop and review electrical architecture for data center + BESS integration, minimizing large-load fluctuations and meeting ride-through requirements.
Evaluate site designs, one-line diagrams, and interconnection concepts for technical feasibility and constructability.
Support economic modeling and technology selection for storage and large-load applications.
Technical Leadership with Engineers of Record (EORs)
Lead technical discussions and design reviews with external EORs and engineering firms.
Define and communicate engineering standards, requirements, and best practices to design partners.
Review and validate EOR deliverables (studies, drawings, calculations) for quality, code compliance, and alignment with project objectives.
Project Engineering Support
Serve as a technical resource and mentor to project engineers, helping resolve design and field issues.
Support commissioning, control system testing, and onboarding of new assets.
Perform and guide Root-Cause Analysis for equipment and design issues (inverters, transformers, switchgear, protection systems, and related equipment).
Standards, Controls & Grid Compliance
Contribute to grid-forming controls and interconnection requirements, including evolving IEEE 2800 and NOGRR 282 standards.
Help drive design standardization and in-house engineering to improve speed, quality, and repeatability of design packages.
Apply engineering analytics, modeling, and software tools to inform design and reliability decisions.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (or related field).
5+ years of engineering experience in power, energy, data center, or industrial infrastructure projects.
Strong understanding of power system fundamentals: one-line diagrams, protection and controls, grounding, arc flash, and interconnection.
Experience reviewing and coordinating engineering deliverables with external design firms or EORs.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to lead technical discussions and present to internal and external stakeholders.
Experience with utility-scale solar, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), or inverter-based resources.
Familiarity with grid-forming controls and standards such as IEEE 2800 and NOGRR 272.
Experience with data center electrical infrastructure and large-load integration.
Familiarity with engineering tools such as ETAP, PSCAD, PSSE, and Aspen.
Experience mentoring junior engineers and leading cross-functional efforts.

Battery Energy Storage Systems Bess Jobs in Florida: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a battery energy storage systems bess in Florida?
Most battery energy storage systems bess roles in Florida require a bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, or power systems engineering paired with hands-on project experience. Florida does not issue a dedicated BESS-specific license, but employers consistently require a Florida-licensed Master Electrician credential or a Professional Engineer license for design-side roles. The NABCEP Battery Storage Associate exam is the most widely recognized voluntary credential and gives candidates a clear edge in Florida's competitive utility market.
Which companies hire battery energy storage systems besss in Florida?
Companies currently hiring battery energy storage systems besss in Florida include NextEra Energy, Moss, and Moss & Associates (Construction), per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Florida's utility-scale solar and storm-resilience investment pipeline means large independent power producers and the state's major investor-owned utilities are the most consistent sources of full-time openings.
Which Florida cities have the most battery energy storage systems bess jobs?
Florida, Mulberry, and Immokalee hold the most battery energy storage systems bess openings in Florida. Miami anchors the market through its concentration of utility infrastructure and resilience-focused municipal projects, while Orlando and Tampa draw hiring from NextEra Energy's regional operations and the growing cluster of renewable energy contractors serving central and west coast grid expansion corridors.
Are there remote battery energy storage systems bess jobs in Florida?
Yes, but they're rare. Battery energy storage systems bess work is fundamentally site-dependent, requiring on-site commissioning, maintenance, and utility coordination. About 33% of battery energy storage systems bess openings tied to Florida are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions are almost exclusively in project engineering, grid modeling, or technical sales roles that don't require physical presence at a battery installation.
How can I get hired as a battery energy storage systems bess in Florida with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a field technician or electrical apprenticeship role with a Florida contractor that serves utility clients, such as those supporting Florida Power and Light or NextEra Energy construction projects. Entry-level commissioning technician positions regularly appear at EPC firms operating out of Miami and Orlando and require only an associate degree in electronics or a licensed electrician apprenticeship. Earning the NABCEP Battery Storage Associate credential before applying signals technical readiness and consistently improves callbacks from Florida hiring managers.
Where can I find and apply to battery energy storage systems bess jobs in Florida?
You can find and apply to battery energy storage systems bess jobs in Florida on Migrate Mate, which lists current Florida openings updated regularly. Find the roles that fit your experience and location, then apply directly to each one without creating a profile or signing up.
