Entry Level Bioinformatics Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level bioinformatics job?
Start by building a portfolio of reproducible analyses on GitHub, even from coursework or personal projects, since most entry level bioinformatics employers evaluate demonstrated technical skill over years of experience. Familiarity with Python or R, sequence analysis pipelines, and tools like BLAST or BWA gives candidates a clear edge. Applying to roles that list internship experience as acceptable, not required, is the most direct path for new graduates.
Which companies hire entry level bioinformaticss?
Companies hiring entry level bioinformaticss right now include Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Guidehouse, and 10x Genomics, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. At this level, hiring covers pharmaceutical and biotech firms, academic medical centers, genomics startups, and contract research organizations that regularly onboard junior analysts and research associates fresh out of graduate or undergraduate programs.
Are there remote entry level bioinformatics jobs?
Yes, though availability varies by employer and role type. About 19% of entry level bioinformatics openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with fully remote positions more common at genomics platforms and biotech startups than at hospital systems or wet-lab-adjacent research teams that expect some on-site presence for cross-functional collaboration.
Are these new grad bioinformatics jobs?
Yes, the entry level bioinformatics openings on this page include new grad, recent graduate, and junior roles. A posting is new-grad friendly when it welcomes zero to two years of experience, accepts internship or academic project work in place of full-time history, or lists a completed degree as the primary qualification. Roles titled junior bioinformatics analyst or research associate typically fall into this category.
Which industries hire the most entry level bioinformaticss?
Entry Level bioinformatics roles concentrate in Biotechnology & Pharmaceuticals, Healthcare & Medical Services, and Consulting & Professional Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors drive entry level hiring because they rely on large-scale genomic, proteomic, and clinical datasets that require junior analysts who are trained in computational biology pipelines but don't yet need senior-level independent research experience.
