Bookkeeper Jobs in Boston: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a bookkeeper job in Boston?
Bookkeeper hiring in Boston concentrates in financial services, healthcare, higher education, and the city's dense nonprofit sector, with particular activity in the Seaport, Financial District, and Longwood Medical Area. Candidates who stand out typically hold QuickBooks or Xero certifications, have experience with accounts payable and receivable reconciliation, and can demonstrate familiarity with fund accounting or grant tracking, both of which Boston's large nonprofit and research-institution employers value.
Which companies hire bookkeepers in Boston?
Boston bookkeeper roles are posted by Amazon, PwC, and State Street and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Boston's mix of major teaching hospitals, universities, law firms, and financial advisory boutiques means hiring comes from a wide range of employer types, not just large corporations.
Are there remote bookkeeper jobs in Boston?
Yes, though availability depends on the employer type. About 41% of bookkeeper openings tied to Boston are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the desk-based nature of most bookkeeping work. Tasks like accounts payable processing, bank reconciliation, and payroll entry tend to be the most remote-compatible, while roles at Boston's smaller firms and nonprofits are more likely to require in-office presence.
How can I get a bookkeeper job in Boston with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Boston is targeting accounts payable or accounts receivable coordinator roles at the city's large healthcare networks, universities, or property management companies, which regularly hire candidates with an associate degree or a bookkeeping certificate from a community college like Bunker Hill or Roxbury Community College. Volunteering to handle finances for a local Boston nonprofit is another concrete way to build a verifiable record before pursuing paid roles.
Which industries hire the most bookkeepers in Boston?
Most bookkeeper openings in Boston sit in Technology & Software, Investment & Asset Management, and Retail, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Boston's concentration of world-class hospitals, research universities, and a long-established financial services corridor drives consistent demand for bookkeepers who can manage complex, multi-entity ledgers and grant-funded budgets.
